330ml bottle poured in a ordinary glass.

Another review in the train... :) Now, a classic Czech Pilsener. I'm a fan of Czech Pilseners: They are simple, "hoppy" and usually refreshing.

A: Nice transparent gold to orange color with a nice and white 2-3 fingers head. Nice retention.
S: Malt and fresh-floral hops. Bready.
T: Fresh hops, malt and yeasts. Nice bitterness (of course, little bit more bitter than the German version). Refreshing as expected.
M: Nice bitter end (I like it) and good carbonation. Yeasts can also be felt in the end.
D: Good drinkability. Classic Pilsener.

12 oz into a pint

A - Pours a clean and clear golden color. Very pils. Lots of carbonation with significant bubbling. head formation is strong, then laces down to a film. Light white in color.

S - Pilsner malts - very strong malty notes with the spicy funk of the pils. No hopping. A pils is distinct, and i would say this beer fits.

T - Starts off with a light malt sweetness, which immediately brings in the heavy bready notes of the pils malts. Mid-stream gets bitter, light floral hops. Finishes with a renewed pils malt zing and some yeast spice.

M - Good beer body - bolstered by good carbonation bite. Leaves behind a light sugar coating. Overall the carbonation is very potent, stinging.

D - Easy drinking. ABV is on target with easy sessioning. Flavors are well integrated. "Less Filling". Good overall.

A: Clear golden with a thick white head which lasts before leaving some traces behind

S: Floral hops and some grassy grains... soft and subtle but varied

T: Continental floral hops kick you in to start and citrus quickly follows before giving way to a standard malt base

M: Light body with a big carbonation profile this is refreshing and perhaps better on a warmer day

D: Not bad at all... but the carbonation kind of gets in the way of prolonged consumption

A- pale yellow with a big white head that laces like crazy.

S- cereal grain and light corn, grass, lemon, saaz hops.

T- pretty much dead-on with the nose. It's very crisp and easy drinking, with a light spicy bite on the finish.

O- A classic that hits all the classic bohemian pils flavors, but overall there is nothing special. Still, an old reliable.

Yields a bright, golden color with a huge, fluffy white head.

Smells of a pleasantly funky, noble hoppiness, together with a good amount of straw and toffee malts. Has an unexpected orange-lime peak, which puts the focus even more on the hops.

Drinks fairly easy with a higher, soft carbonation and a nice, dry bite.

Tastes of straw, sweet and crisp with lots of cakey malts and a herbal note. The herbal hops develop a taste defining dryness onwards from the mid palate, which goes hand in hand with the malts, showcasing a great balance.

Light and refreshing with enough going on to entertain the palate.

12 oz green bottle. Freshness date on back label.
Pils serving glass.
Pale golden in color with a foamy white on top and loads of sticky and trailing lacing. A clean fresh-mowed lawn smell mingles with dried spicy Saaz hops. A mild malt aroma is in the background throughout. A very lightly roasted slightly sweet maltiness gives way to sharp, edgy metallic and resinous hop bitterness. Very drinkable brew!

A dark gold body topped by a decent white head. The nose is mostly of the Saaz hops with the taste a typical Czech pilsner. There is the nice floral side and just a small bit of snap in the finish. Drinkability is top-notch on a warm summer day. Just a small bit on the cloudy side for a pilsner.

12oz green bottle, with best-by date of 08.01.2010. taken directly from a new case so as to avoid light exposure and skunking. tasted in early/mid may 2009.

clear, deep honey straw color. moderate head is creamy, bubbly and foamy. recedes to thin wispy layer. decent lacing of splotchy rings.

aroma: gentle sulfur (but not skunk) upfront, gives way to sweet bready malts and notes of white grape, gently balanced by the light noble saaz hopping - grassy, floral and herbal, although slightly weaker than hoped.

taste: hops come forward more in the flavor, matching with the crisp carbonation. followed by bready malt, with toasted notes, and a trace acidity that seems to balance the moderate bitterness. noble hops are otherwise gentle, but with a very noticeable saaz character.

medium body, surprisingly more substance than expected. smooth, with touch of acidity and resins in the finish. crisp, moderate carbonation upfront, later evolving to smooth creaminess.

very drinkable. easy but flavorful quaffing.

Had a 12 oz. bottle at a Greek restaurant. Actually went pretty well with the olive and spice-based appetizers. Of course, the food probably hid some of the aroma and taste of the beer, but all and all, not a bad Pilsner. Will have to try again sometime when other factors aren’t present

Pours a medium golden colour, with about an inch and a half of thick, foamy head. Recedes quickly in little piles, almost like seafoam. Good lacing.

The smell is nothing too interesting. Hoppy, a bit of straw. Neither good nor bad.

Tastes like an above-average inexpensive pilsner, a little bit sweet, juicy hops, some bread. For a couple of bucks a can, it's pretty good, but not the best Czech pilsner I can get.

Unfortunately, this can languished for a bit longer in my fridge (I went on a couple of brewery tours since purchasing this and it got lost in the chaos). It's a bit flat, but I've had this one before and I know the carbonation is moderate. Not too thin for a mouthfeel.

All and all, this is a fairly good pilsner, and for the cost, it's not bad having one or two on hand (just make sure you get to them!). I prefer Urquell, but it's not bad to pick this one up. Not bad, but it won't blow you away.

Presentation: 11.2 oz green bottle, best by date of Nov 08 on the back. Label has a skyline of Prague in the background.

Appearance: Pours with a bit more color than I expected, towards gold rather than just yellow. Thin head and bubbly.

Smell: Clean malt, floral hops, just a hint of sulphur .. exactly what I would expect from a Czech Pilsner.

Taste: Nice combination of malt flavors and the mineral taste common in beers from the region. Good amount of hops in the finish.

Overall impression: Drinkable and interesting, a nice example of an often overlooked style.
