Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our take on an amber ale starts out somewhat sweet with notes of honey, caramel and a touch of citrus. The German malts give the Crimson Amber a crisp, full flavor which eventually succumbs to a refreshing and clean hop finish.

12 oz undated can from SC.
Hazy red brown body with a good beige head.
Odd aroma and, worse yet, flavor. Seems contaminated but may just be way out of date.
DNF.

12 oz can poured into a pint glass. 6.2%. Pours a dark amber with brown highlights, with a one finger head that maintains as a 1/4 creamy lace throughout the glass. The smell is of honey, tea, and caramel malt. The taste follows suit, with some mild citrus, The mouthfeel is spot on for the style; a medium amount of heft and carbonation with a somewhat creamy feel with a slight twang at he finish. Overall, a solid amber from an up and coming brewery.

A: The beer is extremely dark amber in color—it is black when viewed from afar—and amber is only visible near the bottom of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a finger high dark beige head that died down, leaving a thick collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of nutty and toasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of nutty malts and notes of toasted malts, the latter of which contribute faint hints of sweetness to the taste.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a little nuttier compared to other beers in the style.
