Listed as an English Porter, the description also includes "layers of caramel and chocolate malts" along with Marris Otter and oats.
Pours more black than brown, the only look of cola I get is at the very edge of the beer. Head isn't much on this pour, but a medium ring of tan head sticks around.
Nose is pretty strong, and caramel seems to win out over chocolate malt, a little dark nuts, and a little char of roasted malt. Seems like there's a little bitterness in there, but also seems like it might be the roasted malts.
First sip is a little sweet, caramel and chocolate, and the feel is slick and maybe a little heavy. By mid-taste, though, a little nuttiness has brought back some brown porter notes. There is a nice low-level bitterness that grows into the mid-taste and lingers to the end.
Overall, this is a nice sweeter porter that seems almost to be a cross between a brown ale and a stout. It's probably a little heavy for too many at a time, but is a nice beer to sip at some point in the night.
