The beer pours a dark gold color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a solid malt scent that boasts of pale and carapils malts along with a mild floral hop aroma. The taste is decent. It has a caramelly malt flavor that goes down easy and finishes dry and bitter. The mouthfeel is good. It is a low/medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a good drinking pale ale. It has a decent malt bill and good use of hops.

a poorly made and generic tasting pale ale. its clear for the most part on the pour, somewhere in the bronze color family, with a short loved white head, thin and dissipating from the get go. its got a nose of funky tannic off flavors, probably due to excessively high fermentation temperatures, as the yeast seems almost soured in an unintentional way, and the beer comes across rather think, like coagulated proteins in an amateur homebrew. I don't get hardly any hops in the nose or the taste, the bitterness comes more from the off flavors of the malt. the pale ale is generally a pretty simple brew, not one to get into a lot of trouble with. not sure how this went so wrong, but it is positively one to avoid. heres to hoping I just got a bad batch, but yikes.

Hazy orange with a yellow hue at the edges. Massive, creamy white head that fades very slowly. Good lacing.
Smell is dried out sweat socks. touch of malts. Little bit of hops come through.
Taste is slightly spiced malts, with a little bit of hops. Very faint notes of grapefruit, apple, and sugar.
Mouthfeel is smooth with a touch of crispness at the finish. Fairly low level of carbonation. Light body.
Drinkability is good. Other than the rather unimpressive smell, the beer isn't all that bad.

Gold Color to light copper in color, this was a non-descript average beer.

I was hoping for a livelier crisp Pale Ale with some character.

I was disappointed.

Malty Sweet Aroma, leads to a mostly malty sweet taste.

Not a balanced Pale Ale and I can't describe any hop character to offset the malty sweetness.

Finish is the same as the start and the flavor profile is just too simplistic.

Sorry I bought two bottles. I'll drink the second one when I'm bored.

Move on and don't stop at this exit.

First time visiting the Suds, and I walked in with an open mind. Have not heard much good about this place from the craft beer community, but I wanted to find out first hand. Decided to go with the pale first - fairly safe bet, right? Bar keep informed me that it is more like an IPA - "bitter with lots of hops". This is starting to sound good. Appearance of the brew was an immediate red flag as she placed it on the bar. My pale ale appeared to be more in the brown ale/porter range based on color. I wondered if she poured the wrong ale. The beer was a deep, dark brown with a very thick head.

Knew something was off as I brought this to my nose for a smell. I tried to pick out the characteristic floral/citrus hop aromas I was expecting, but they were a bit hard to find through the other distracting smells. Had a very strange aroma - some what of a metallic, stale, musky smell. Maybe its the 'pure Syracuse water' they use. Flavors were not much different. Metallic, stale malt, astringent, almost molassesy were all unpleasant flavors that came to mind. Very hard to find any positive flavor characteristics in this beer. The mouthfeel was the only good aspect of this beer that I could find. It had a very stable body with a very thick and creamy head. I got about a quarter of this pale ale down and could not get any farther before leaving it on the bar. I did ask a friend to give it a try before I discarded it to make sure it wasn't me that was off, and they agreed that it was awful tasting.

I wish I could say I had a good experience here so that I could add another great beer destination to the long list that Syracuse boasts, but I really can not. I don't understand how anyone can come here and enjoy the house beer, especially with Empire around the corner. I did sample two of their other house beers, and they too were not pleasing.

This arrives with a thick head and a good bit of bubbles in evidence. It is a pretty, deep copper color. There are lots of floral hops on the nose. It has a good mouthfeel, bordering on creamy. It gives an excellent finish, with the hops becoming really assertive. Very enjoyable.
