Brewed by:
Georgetown Brewing Company
Washington, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
What makes a beer imperial? Probably the fact that we spent a king's ransom brewing it. Lovely Reida is brewed with almost twice as much malt and ten times as much hops as would be used in a "regular" brew of this size.

Light foamy head, nice lacing, clear but dark ruby maroon color.

Nose big fruity hops, mild tropical but citrus, nice generic fruity hops, mild candied apricot like stone fruit, sweet candy reddish malts, touch spicy hops, hint tropical and berry.

Taste brings sweet toffee, caramel candy malts, syrupy, candy toffee, some booze, with sweetness mild citrus, candied orange peel, sticky hop resin, pine notes, big bitterness mixed with big sweetness, what used to be called east coast style now seems to be a west coast style. Finish is drier, a little booze, candied orange peel, caramel toffee, bitter rind, mild alcohol.

Mouth is med to heavier bod, decent carb, mild alc warmth.

Overall how is this rated so high?! It's decent, but not very good, bleh and unfinishable even.

Scored a growler of this from the brewery itself! I missed out on the first batch they made earlier in Fall, but they ended up making some more, and I got a chance to try it this time.

A - Pours a somewhat transparent copper-orange hue, with a nice, two-finger tan-ish white head. Lacing is moderate/standard for the style.

S - Smell is of strong, bright floral hops, and plenty of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, and a candied/sugary malt profile, with hints of caramel. One of the more pleasing DIPA scents I've come across.

T - Taste is of an explosion of hoppy goodness. Lots of floral bitterness, that is surprisingly well balanced by a candy-like malt profile, with grapefruit and orange flavors, as well as hints of caramel and darker fruits. Finishes with a slight alcohol presence. The sweetness hides the 150 IBU rating this beer has, but is far from cloying.

M - Mouthfeel is actually one of this beer's highlights. It is insanely drinkable (dangerously so) for a 10% alcohol beer, ranking right up there w/some of the Belgian beers I've tried on the "too easy to drink" factor. Body tends to hover around the medium side of the scale, and the carbonation is just enough to keep this beer lively, but easy to drink at the same time.

O - Overall, this is a really nice DIPA, and given that there was enough demand for them to release another batch just before winter, I hope that it becomes a rotating offer available during more than just Fall-time. If you are familiar with this brewery's other beers, Lovely Reida is an entirely different tasting beer from Lucille, and does an excellent job of distinguishing itself as more than "just another IPA from the same brewery". Well done, Georgetown!

On Tap at Capones bar and grill in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. They only pour 12/16oz due to the higher abv. I had a 12oz poured into a European style 12oz pint glass.

A: Dark, reddish tint, very clear though. Very lovely looking beer hence the name. Head dissapates quickly leaving spotty lacing on the glass, not much lacing at all though probably due to the high alcohol, leaves decent legging regardless.

S: HOPS, hops and more hops, sweet, fruity, you can faintly smell the alcohol, I get quite a bit of floral, the hops really overpower a lot of the smell on this but it is a fantastic smelling beer.

T: Bitter, and this is coming from a Stone drinker, this beer hits you, warming in the chest comes after about 1/4 of the beer gone, you can taste the alcohol but the bitterness and freshness of this beer is too good. The weird thing is this is a very drinkable beer being 10%. I'm drinking it with some sweet hot wings and so far it pairs pretty well, usually I would order something a lot lighter and this probably isn't the best with spicy food unless your in for the night. This beer creeps up and halfway through you start to feel a head buzz. Very delicious beer though.

M: Full bodied DIPA for sure, the hoppy bitterness bites your tongue on this one, it goes down very smooth and with the high alcohol it warms fast. Drink this fast if you prefer it cold, I'm on my last 4th of it and it's starting to warm and I'm getting a lot of alcohol burn and taste. This is a huge beer guys. I think the highest ipa I've ever had besides this was a stone one and it was 9.4 or their 17th anniversary which was 9 or so (haven't had ruinten yet).

O: The lovely reida is lovely. This is a very big, very hoppy double ipa, a 12oz pour has got me feeling tipsy and good, granted its also paired with my first meal of the day but this is a good beer. I could drink a bomber of this and be set for the night. This isn't really a sessionable beer I mean it could be cause it's drinkable but after a 6 pack of this your for sure to be probably blacked out. A great beer for hoppy ipa lovers. If you get the chance to try it do it you won't be disappointed.

I'm gonna give it a 9/10.

A: Pours a copperish orange color, no haze, leaving a nice pseudo fluffy white cap which hangs on a bit even after a few sips. A little bit of lacing is noticed i the first pour into my Reubens Brews tulip fades away

S: Big nose! Pungent citrus; grapefruit and orange peel are pretty doninant but the pine needles and backseat floral notes pop as well. I smell a little bit of sweet caramel on the nose too

T: Immediate in your face flavor and IBU's. A big zing of orange peel and grapefruit wallop the taste buds with a little bit booze and mildly assertive bitterness, A bit of pine resin is picked up with some fluctuating floral notes. All of this rides on a hearty caramel backbone which has some breadiness as well. The finish is luscious with more bitterness, sweetness and loads of flavor hops providing citrus and pine. Amazingly good.

M: As balanced as this beer can be. It is what an Imperial + or Triple IPA should be. Full bodied, robust, well carbonated for the style. Loads of flavor and easy to drink, is it ever! I crushed the growler. Booze well masked.

O: Damn near perfect. If the head retention and nose were a little better I would have given this a perfect score. It did come from a grlowler so....
