Okay so wow. Today is my birthday and I decided to get a glass of this after tasting in a flight. To say it stood out would be an absolute understatement.
Look- Near jet black. A sufficient but less than the desired amount of lacing was the color of dark mud. Completely opaque even when held up to the light. Visible thickness.
Smell- This is a beer you'll smell before it even gets to your nose. Oozing from the lip of the glass is a pungent, delectable, and absolutely enticing aroma concocted from a mix of fudge, coffee, and bourbon. Overall pretty sweet but not over overwhelming or artificial.
Taste- Without a doubt best beer I have ever tasted. I know that taste is subjective. And I know that not all are partial to super dark beers. But if you like stouts and porters then you will adore this. Absolutely everything that an Imperial Stout should be and more. Upfront the 13% abv is noticeable. However, the slight bozzieness quickly recedes and gives way to a divine wash of rich buttery chocolate. It's a weird sensation that's hard to describe. The best way I could state it is that it melts in your mouth. The thick buttery liquid wraps itself around your tongue covering every taste bud. No matter how sumptuous the initial mouthful is, the aftertaste is even more scrumptious. Highly recommend following through (deeply exhaling through the nose immediately after taking a sip) with this beer as even more notes come to light.
Fee- As expected this beer hits you quick being that it is 13% abv. However, this isn't a beer you chug. It's a sipper, like a brandy. Though after a 10oz glass I was already feeling a buzz coming on. Once my second was finished a strong buzz was solidified.
Overall- I don't think calling this beer world-class is a misnomer. In all honesty, this is the best beer I have ever had. Now I suppose I am biased since stouts and porters are my favorite style of brew but even if they're not your's, you'll enjoy it. The only reason I didn't rate a solid 5 stars is because of the upfront boozy taste (though it really does quickly dissipate). If you ever see this anywhere, GET IT!
