July 2012: Had this in a bar while on holiday in the Algarve and wasn't impressed but bought a bottle to give it another go on my apartment balcony later on during our sunny stay. 33cl Bottle: best before march 2013.

It wasn't any better! Looks interesting and fine, a pleasant clean, clear amber body with a good white head. Sadly the good bits end with the view: this malt based lager is just too sweet, they have squeezed buckets of caramel into the brew and it reeks and tastes of it.

I like sweet malty brews normally but this was too much, even for me.

330 ml bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). ABV is 6.4%. Clear amber colour, large and lasting off-white head. Fruity and flowery hops in the aroma, some sugary notes too. The flavour is malty sweet and sugary, notes of caramel. Low bitterness. I drank the beer at cellar temperature +, it will probably taste better when cold.

I think this was the best beer I had in Portugal. Bought a 4 pack at Gale beach for about 4 Euros.

From a brown longneck poured into a glass, the beer is red with gold highlights. It has an off-white head with good lacing. It's a looker.

The nose is of caramel & fresh milled grains.

The taste is sweet with honey & tootsie roll notes. There is some slight hopping in the aftertaste. The beer is almost bock like in its finish.

The mouth is pleasantly thickish. It was an easy drinker, but two in row was enough for me due to the sweetness.

330 ml. bottle. Amber colour, tin head that does not last much. Smell of caramel and malts, nothing really interesting. Medium body and medium carbonation. Taste of caramel with yeast notes. Some dryness in the end. I can't find anything to justify the name Abadía and nothing that is gonna make me buy another one. Just another beer more.

From Alcampo. In Teku glass. Reading CPPHTP10 Ch12. This is not an abbey beer as its name suggest. More of a Marzen. It isnt too bad. Caramel taste and a bit alcoholic. To drink with care as its goes up to the head quickly.

Bottle from grocery store in Albufeira. From notes.

A - Poured with a film of eggshell head. Copper body with medium carbonation. Bright. No lacing with a ring of head retention.

S - Candy maltiness, sweet malt, and a mild hop note.

T - Yeast was harsh and tried to balance with malt sweetness but couldn't catch up. Rough yeasty esters.

M - Very dry finish with medium carbonation and a medium body.

O/D - Not a great one. Wouldn't seek it out even if I was in Portugal again. Flavours didn't really jive well. Definate room for improvement.

Nice copper color with a one finger head with medium retention.
Predominant sweet aroma of molasses, grains and brown sugar.
Condimented and sweet flavor. Notes of caramel malt, Belgian yeast, English hops and brown sugar. Hints of sulfur.
Medium body with good carbonation.
This one was actually more fun than the last one I tried. A bit overly sweet, but still appropriate for the style. Though the name Abadia, does not describe it well. Not extraordinary but worth it a try.

330ml bottle poured in an ordinary glass at the Coimbra's shopping mall.

A: Pours a amber clear color with a medium sized white head. Few lacings left

S: Sweet malts are a must, sweet caramel, a bit fruity followed by a mild smell of Belgium yeasts (reminds a Dubbel)

T: Sweet. Sweet malts and caramel. Some fruit esters. Actually, it tastes like a Red Lager. The Abadia can only be justified by the biscuity and "Belgium like" yeasts.

M: Light to medium body, medium carbonation. Dry finish.

O: Well, not that bad for a Portuguese beer I would say. No offense, just a reality
