Well, this was a surprise. A dark low alcoholic beer from one of the worst mainstream breweries in Moscow. Can one hope they have turned the corner? Interesting brown long neck half liter bottle with a quite professional looking multi-colored label featuring the brewery's coat of arms. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 2/7/05, I opened it on 10/1/04.

Pours a clear but dark cola color under a reddish tan two finger head that settles very quickly to nothing but thin collar, leaving no lace at all. The nose is full of caramel. The mouth is light and very prickly. There's a lot of malt here, caramel and burnt grain, but slightly on the thin side. The hops never really kick in until the aftertaste, and then really only as an afterthought. Still, a most pleasant, drinkable brew.

There is a condradiction about this beer. Some people say it's very good, comparable to Czech dark lagers. Some people call it undrinkable. My personal experiaence shows that it looks like rich dark lager, smells like it but tastes like water with malt syrup. Thinnest dark beer I ever tried. Maybe it's just bad luck, but after a third bottle I simple stopped to look for the 'genuine' product. Not worth a try.

500 ml bottle from Latvia, mine had 4.5% ABV

Pours black with tan head, good retention, some patchy lacing. Aroma is sugary and lightly burnt malt, some caramel.

Taste is simple sweet malt, bits of burnt bitterness with sweetish aftertaste. Mouthfeel is smooth light with moderate carbonation and a touch of warming sensation towards the end of the glass.

Overall, light and refreshing beer, but seems to be too sweet and watery.
