Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #35 (Dec 2009):
Boasting a bit about its lightness, at the same time it tries to keep its crafty edge by having the Kölsch label.
Mild chill, hazed golden-hay color does not block the view of the bubbles racing to keep the head alive. Slightly grainy and husky with a faint grape skin and lemon edge. Light crispness accentuates the lighter body. Dusty husk, dried grass, grape skin, grape-nut and doughy biscuit all come to mind with each sip. Hops run in and out, but slap down a quick bitterness and light herbal flavor. Dry ending with a nearly clean aftertaste.
Easy on the palate--Southern craft session is reborn again.

On tap at the brewery.
Light amber with a decent head.
Aroma has both light malts and Saaz? hops.
On tap at the brewery.
Black and opaque with an excellent tan head.
Flavor is mildly hoppy, relatively high for style, with a faint malt base.

Served from tap into a standard pint. Pours a pale yellow with a one finger white head that subsides to minimal. There was nice lacing evident throughout. The aroma was comprised of light malt and an earthy note. The flavor was of malt and nutty notes. It was light on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this was not a bad brew. It has been one of my favorite lighter beers that I have had. It is worth trying if you enjoy light brews.

Another in a series I am working my way through this weekend. I went for the lighter fare right after dinner. Served cold and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 06/06/2009.
The pour was yellow straw colored with a good amount of carbonation rippling throughout into a big fizzy white head that settled dwon to leave a bare top after a few moments. Light wet hay in the aroma, hints of banana and maybe clove? Clean crisp flavor here with a very light body and a clean and very quick finish, leaving almost no flavor behind as it moves past the tongue.
Overall this is not bad at all, but put in the category of a Kolsch and I have had much, much better. Still I would go for it in a pinch.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a high amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high dense bright white head that has a Cool Whip-like consistency and has excellent retention properties.
S: There are light aromas of grainy malts and grassy hops in the nose.
T: The taste has light flavors of grainy malts and is slightly vinous; the hops contribute a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate to high amount of carbonation. The finish has a bit of dryness.
O: The light-bodied nature of this beer makes it very easy to drink, but the beer could have a bit more flavor and less carbonation.

Pours a hazy, peach-juice-like yellow-orange color, with a substantial yet quickly dissipating eggshell white head. The aroma is a combination of musty, earthy, and slightly citrusy aromatics against a light toast malt base. The dull, musty hop characteristics are likewise present in the flavor, but they are less pronounced, allowing the light, dry, toast character to come through more clearly. The texture is surprisingly substantial and resinous, but the sharp, prickly carbonation keeps the palate somewhat clean, although it is also a bit distracting. Overall, this isn't outstanding in the grand scheme, but is a great, flavorful alternative to other light beer options.

Poured into a pint glass.
4.0 A: Clear golden yellow color. First pour gave about three fingers of white frothy head with pretty good retention and some spotty lacing.
3.0 S: Cider and cotton candy. I can't say I hate the aroma, but I don't think this is what they were going for. It's rather one dimensional and goofy.
1.5 T: Kinda taste like nothing. Slightly vinous and the cotton candy makes a slight appearance again. Hops are basically null and void.
1.5 M: Super light body with an unreasonable amount (on the high end) of carbonation.
2.0 D: This isn't the greatest style and it's hard to make a good one, but this brew doesn't even come close. Hops are nowhere to be found and malts are simple and weak.

This beer was very light colored and light bodied. The smell was like a light beer. The taste was thin and watery. The mouthfeel was not too harsh. I could drink this beer again. Not an every day beer but perfect for when a lighter beer is called upon.

Decided to give this one a try after hearing about it's gold medal in this year's GABF. Pours a crystal clear golden color with fluffy, white head. Aroma is bread and mild hops. A really clean, crisp taste that is quite refreshing. Biscuty upfront and a slight bitterness on the back end that is really nice. Just enough body in this one which makes it a great summertime ale. Drinkability is outstanding. Definitely give this one a go and buy by the case!

Rockers entry into the "lite" beer category, at "just" 119 calories. This one I found the least enjoyable of the six Rockers brews I sampled. It is pale and weak with no standout flavors. On the plus side, however, it does go down easy without any strange off-tastes. I would consider this brew in about the same class as a Coors...easy enough to drink, but nothing to write home about.

12 ounce bottle -> Highlands Brewing snifter
A - pours up a medium amber with a large two finger soapy head, good retention, and good lacing. There is quite a bit of sediment noted that goes straight to the bottom of the glass.
S - I didn't get much on the nose. Maybe some grassy notes.
T - very weak taste, very malty with no bitterness whatsoever. Finishes kind of dry.
M - heavily carbonated.
O - sorry I'll have to pass on this if it comes my way again.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a golden color and a mainly clear texture. This beer had a small head that dissipated quickly.
S: Slightly hoppy quality to the aroma, but not a lot other than that.
T: Tasted a little of hops at first, but it was mainly just thin and not very complex.
M: An average amount of carbonation and a slick, oily finish.
D: This is just another blazingly average beer without much personality. Not very interesting at all.

Appearance: Light Mango/Yellow
Smell: Yellow/Sweet Bell Pepper
Taste: A little pepper with light lemon.
Mouthfeel: Thin - but not watery. Refreshing light beer with a little more body than most.
Drinkability: Session. Session. Session! This beer is great for the weather and not filling.

Appearance: Pours a clear honey-gold color with a meringue pie head; plenty of lacing left behind
Smell: Bready, with a hint of hops
Taste: Bready, up front, with just a bit of grain and a hint of lemony hop in the back; slightly husky on the finish, with some residual sugar in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate, but zesty, carbonation
Drinkability: Refreshing and easy to drink; more of a crossover than a true Kölsch

Threes across the board. Out of the four brews in the RJ Rockers sampler pack, this one was the most enjoyable... and that's only in comparison to those in THAT sampler.
It looked like a kolsch, had a light kolsch aroma and taste. There was a better bite with this one than the others, mostly due to better effervescence. Finish was clean and slightly dry. All in all, just what I'd expect.
