Had this back to back with the ass-tastic Pigskin Porter. This was much better ... relatively speaking.

Pours a very dark brown with a black(ish) interior. Maybe half an inch of dark foam.

Smells like crushed, roasted oatmeal, a hint (just a hint) of chocolate, some roast malt, and maybe the slightest whiff of vanilla.

The vanilla basically vanishes from the flavor, as it's a strong, but good, roasted oatmeal and malt that dominates all. An aftertaste of dark, semi-sweet chocolate. A bit of an acrid, burnt roasting sensation to the aftertaste that I didn't like at all.

Decently thick.

On-tap at Back Street (Irvine)

A: The beer pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a finger or so of tan head.

S: A pretty minimal aroma to this beer, and that's for the best. And that's because what is there is not good. Roasted malt, cardboard (plenty of this), bleach/chlorine, and "meh".

T: The flavor is slightly sour with a lot of grass and roast. Acidic roasted malts and plastic combine to give this beer a totally..."interesting" flavor. I'm pretty sure there is some cardboard in there too.

M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.

D: Almost as bad as Pigskin Porter.
