From a 16oz can, canned 07/06/17. Served in an imperial pint pub glass.

Pours a nearly opaque, thoroughly hazed bronze-gold with two-plus fingers of cream-coloured poufy head. Retention is excellent, slowly settling to a clumpy cap of suds with light, spotty lacing.

Faint nose of fresh yeasty bread, peachy marmalade and bubblegum.

Taste is a well-balanced melange of doughy malt and zesty, peppery bittering hops supported by fruity, aromatic peach, grapefruit zest and bubblegum. Resinous, stops well short of being juicy, drying, finishes with grapefruit and spruce and a brief, subtle, tingly bitterness.

Feel is smooth and mouth-coating, medium-plus bodied and well carbonated.

Here is a beer which slightly blurs the borderlands between American IPA and New England IPA but which, on balance, leans over the line into NEIPA territory, and most certainly in appearance and aroma. Beautiful contrast between the aromatic aroma and spicy palate. I'll buy more any time they see fit to brew it.

16 oz can - just came in to Spruce Creek in Kittery.

Pours a hazy but vibrant orange-gold color with a one finger creamy head that retains and laces well.

Aroma is moderate with tones of citrus and pine, a little spicy too. These come out as the beer mellows.

Taste is clean and refreshing up front with a flavorful but moderated sweet up front. The hop flavor is still citrus and pine but it is not very forward. A departure from the hazies, it has a bit more malt flavor behind it. It has a clean finish with a moderate bitterness creeping in on the end. Very well done.

Feel is not too sticky, no alcohol burn at all - just crisp flavor with a small amount of seltzer and a bitter hop buzz at the end.

This is an example of what I would call a hybrid "Hazy"/Standard IPA (you know, the IPA before the hop craze kicked into over gear around here). It has the small amount of sweet malt and some pine/citrus hops of the hazies but a more pronounced (but still moderate) bitterness of the standard IPA as well as the clean crisp flavor... maybe a middle ground between the two styles in terms of malt content. I would consider this one of my favorite non-NE IPAs now.

Just a last note that Mast Landing is doing some fantastic brewing. They are quickly establishing themselves as a major player in the southern Maine region and this beer rounds out their IPA profile nicely. I haven't had a beer from them I didn't love, and I can be a bit fickle.

16oz undated can.

Pours cloudy gold with an orange hue. Tattered lacing with decent retention. Peach and danky pine on the nose. Medium bodied with a fairly soft mouthfeel. Pithy citrus with a solid bitterness on the palate. Zero malt and quite dry with peach skins and grapefruit following through. Finishes with lingering citrus and a firm bitterness.

Tasty beer but the nose is subdued for the style. Otherwise an easy drinker.

Pint on tap at Hella Good in Portland.

Appearance: Pretty clear straw gold. No real head.

Aroma: Prickly hops, pine.

Taste: Piney, grapefruity IPA. Familiar but good.

Mouthfeel: Refreshing, easy. Alcohol is well concealed.

Overall: Good IPA, if not a mind blower. Named after a fun snake but I hope finds a home.

Look- golden orange haze with a nice pillowy head that lingers a bit while leaving nice lacing.

Smell- not getting much maybe a little cracker, pine resin, grapefruit

Taste- much better than smell. Grapefruit, sticky hop resin, cracker malt.

Feel- soft with nice carbonation. Good balance between hops and malt. Medium body.

Overall- a very good neipa-ipa balance. More malty than a neipa. Another very good brew from Mast Landing!

Pour from can at the brewery, 10 oz. I also bought a 4 pack to bring home. Staff said they are brewing one more batch this season.

Hazy, golden with bit of orange/rusty tint. Head is foamy, small bubbles, leaves lacing clinging around my glass.

Hops aroma has hint of candy sweetness, bit of grain, but aroma is mostly powered by citrus and resinous pine. Overall not a huge blast from the aroma. But nothing off-putting.

Flavor is clean. This brew is crisp and refreshing and feels fairly light. Good for warm summer weather and the beach. Very balanced malt and hops. Mostly citrus zest and some earthy resins. A hint of spiciness to the hops.

Moderate carbonation and lighter side of medium bodied.

Crisp and clean flavors, nice brew, not a huge New England hop bomb (not trying to be), but balanced and pleasant overall.
