MadeWest Brewing Company
California, United States
Notes: West Coast style IPA showcasing tropical cutting edge hop varietals. A light malt base of two row, wheat and a touch of pilsner provide a platform for a complex bouquet of pineapple, papaya, mango and candy-like stone fruit and citrus tones. This IPA has a mellow bitterness and a smooth pleasant dry finish.

HOPS: El Dorado, Citra, 07270, Ekuanot, Eureka!

Somethings Raul will just never understand. Umm, like Brexit... Couldn’t tell you what that’s about. Or why people refuse to use their turn signals... it just boggles the mind. And right here in Madewest IPA, we have a bit of a West Coast banger, and it only costs $1.59! I mean, that’s like Costco meets Smart and Final kind of price! And you know what? Like Josephine Skriver’s Instagram, I’m I to it! Now, this obviously ain’t a heavy hitter like Pliny, or even my go to when I don’t have Pliny, AleSmith IPA; but it definitely can run with the big dogs! Yeah, for real... For the price, this is when your date is thinkin’ lobster, but you take her to Burger King, and you still get some at the end of the night.

Raul shoots... He scores!

Thanks, Gregg!

Got this and six other random beers from Gregg via a hookup at Stone. This would be my first time having a MadeWest beer by itself and my second one overall (had a collab with Fieldwork). Untappd description read, “San Diego International Beer Competition 2018 Bronze – India Pale Ale. This West Coast IPA is loaded with a fresh tropical fruit character. A light malt base provides a platform for showcasing the complex hop bouquet of pineapple, candy-like stone fruit and citrus tones. This IPA has a mellow bitterness and a smooth, pleasantly dry finish. HOPS: El Dorado, Citra, 07270, Ekuanot, Eureka!”

Poured a gold-to-light amber clear color with three fingers of frothy white head. Lots of bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass at different speeds. Excellent spiderweb lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled passion fruit, El Dorado, Citra, stone fruit, candied orange, tangerine, herbal, a touch of Ekuanot, pine, lime, papaya and guava. Big Citra and El Dorado out of the can. Was digging it. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. Pretty boozy for the 6.9 pct. ABV. El Dorado, Citra, stone fruit, orange peel, tangerine, papaya, grapefruit rind, bitter pine, herbal, green pepper, Ekuanot, lime and black pepper. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Really liked this overall. Grew on me as it went down. Outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)

16oz can poured into a tulip glass…

Latte-white, 1.5 finger foamy head with very good retention, leaving a wall of lacing; Color is murky butterscotch gold

sweet guava, citrus, orange, pine

tart, a little spice, bitter, juniper; leaves a citrus rind zing on the palate

mild carbonation with a crisp bite; Medium body; Felt flat to me, I wanted more.

This was not a memorable IPA—just OK. I prefer a lighter body, easier drinkability, and stronger hop aroma/taste. In hindsight I noticed my can was 4.5 months old so I may re-review something fresher. Purchased for $1.99 in Southern California

L - Pours a pale amber body with a nice white head

S - Papaya, citrus

T - Subtle guava and papaya with melon notes round the whole thing up. A little citrus bite and nice bitterness. The balance is nice

M - Juicy as hell

O - A really nice (hazy) west coast ipa

Handsome bright gold color with sticky foam in the Piraat tulip. Really pleasant almost creamy mouthfeel. Nicely carbonated and smooth. Aroma of green melon and tangerine.

Bright and spicy and on the dry side. This is a little austere, but not really bitter. There is a mineral finish. Extremely drinkable and a friendly IPA with plenty of aromatics. From the 16 oz can purchased at Bottlecraft in Liberty Station.

Pours a very nice clear light orange with great head and retention. Smells fantastic with tropical fruit, pine. Taste is very nice - just a bit of honey and fruity hops. I like it.

Poured a golden-yellow-orange with an off white head. Smells and flavors were a balanced hop character - tropical fruit, berries - and malts - bread, slight honey sweetness. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Smooth, rounded bitterness, opposed to the dry lingering finish of this brewery's pale ale. A good IPA.
