Notes: We brewed this version of our Southern Pale Ale to be an easy drinking “folk” beer, which means it has a lighter body and 3.5% ABV. We think it’s a great beer for new converts to craft beer. We boost the bitterness and aroma with a combination of bold kiwi hops. Waimea provides the smooth bitterness and a hint of pine, while the Nelson Sauvin stands out on the nose with its distinctive cristpness and unique floral tones, all balanced with the subtle taste of citrus from the Motueka. We like to think our Southern Pale Ale washes over your like a cool breeze on a warm summers day. Afterall, it’s always summer somewhere!

This is a very solid session APA. While it does not break any style conventions, it hits all the marks of a citrusy and fairly sweet APA. Enjoyable, drinkable, and while it is not revolutionary one would not expect such from a low-ABV beer.

Some gushing occurs when I open the bottle. The gold-amber liquid got chill haze; the three finger compact head is off-white; it sinks slowly leaving no lacing.

The smell is bitter-sweet with exotic fruits and floral notes. Some rubber and cream candy in the background. It is fairly clean.

The taste got strong passing clean bitter flavours, followed by floral/fruity notes and cream candy. It is rather dry. Light to medium body. The aftertaste is medium bitter with dry green grapes, lime juice, banana peels and a hint of vanilla. The finish is dry-bitter with exotic fruits in the background.

The carbonation is strong; the small fresh bubbles are long-lived. The liquid is on the lighter side.

A clean and fresh New World APA, perhaps a bit thin but on the other side it is just 3.5%. %. I’m getting a bit curious on the 4.6% version.
