On tap at Southern Grist tasting room on 08/30/17. As advertised, pineapple, vanilla and tropical hops. Outstanding.

Kinda tastes like a pineapple creamsicle. Little hop bitterness is noticeable under the mountain of vanilla and lactose, just a bit of peppery hops. It actually tastes ok for such a strange beer.

a moderately to very successful dessert ipa, again, like always, i wish there wasnt lactose in here. i think there is plenty of body from the grain, and more than enough sweetness and perceived sweetness from the vanilla and the fruit, that it really seems like overkill, not a necessary part of this recipe at all, but aside from that, i think the beer is pretty darn rad. the pineapple tastes canned, and beyond that, cooked, baked, almost caramelized or something, like it actually would in the cake, which i think gives this a cool degree of authenticity even beyond a more real and fresh pineapple vibe would. the vanilla is natural too subtle compared to the pineapple but a nice like between the grain and the fruit. this is still pretty malty for what it is which i like, makes it taste like beer instead of a cocktail or a confection. all of that added stuff is really good here. what seems weird to me is calling it an ipa, there is a pineapple-like sort of dry hopped tropical juicy thing happening, but its almost absorbed entirely by the pineapple itself, and without any real bitterness at the end, this seems less hoppy than i want an ipa of any sort to be. thats not a negative when i taste it though, more hops would seemingly throw this out of whack, its nice as it is. better carbonation than a lot of their other beers had, and a long lingering flavor that really does taste like the dessert. a touch sweeter than it needs to be, but overall a really clever and well executed beer, one of my favorites we had in here!

Looked and smelled excellent...taste was too too vanilla..it completely overwhelmed the rest of the beer. Ultra dry and hoppy finish. Balance was way off. Hopefully next batch is better.
