Pours very dark brown towards black with a tan head that leaves ample lacing.

The smell is of roasted iced coffee.

The taste is of coffee grounds - iced and roasted with sweet dark malt undertone. The taste of coffee (not espresso - much more American black coffee) is roasty enough in the finish - nearly hits burnt.

Plenty of coffee here. The dark malt, other than a hint towards chocolate doesn't do much to add to the complexity - It is heavily roasted black coffee overall.

It's coffee with a dark malt backing.

Hinterland Luna Coffee Stout, malt beverage with coffee added. Green Bay Brewing Company, Green Bay, WI. 1 pint bottle.

Deep black color, lush cocoa head, starts plumb and drops down, leaving lace.

Aroma: cocoa meets coffee, rich, bittersweet, hints of vanilla. Mmm, nice.

Taste: Big coffee stout, juicy mouthfeel, medium body. Moderate carbonation. Sweetness overcomes bitterness. Not as rich, thick, or viscous as I'd prefer in a coffee stout, or any stout.
Especially smooth and dr…consumable. Very mellow in the mouth. Too much so, I'd say. Bit watery for a good coffee stout. Chocolate malt remains dominant, coffee is there, but not quite strong enough.

I'm just gonna chalk it up as "unimpressed."

Luna Coffee Stout
Hinterland Brewery Restaurant

LOOK: Pours a dark brown, with a creamy tan foam.

SMELL: Roasted malt and coffee aromas, very strong smelling.

TASTE: Premium coffee flavors like mocha, char, smoke, roasted malts, and mild vanilla. Abrasively bitter yet remarkably smooth. Very tasty and drinkable.

MOUTHFEEL: Ridiculously smooth and creamy.

OVERALL: Impressive stout, strong coffee notes, and I can dig it.

Pours a dark black body, with a thick creamy one finger offwhite head, good retention, not much lacing. Smells of coffee, and that's about it. Not a whole lot more than that. Flavour is similarly uncomplicated, but I do not taste much of any of the base stout. No chocolate, cocoa, espresso, any of that. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied, carbonation feels like nitro, a bit creamy. Overall, not a whole lot other than coffee on this one. Too bad.

Bottle poured into an imperial pint. Thanks to beerwolf77 for this one!

(A)- Pours a dark dark brown color that produced some gray-like bubbles.

(S)- A burst of roasted yet spicy coffee grounds in front of some raisins.

(T)- Just like the smell. A burst of roasted coffee. One dimensional, but tasty.

(M)- A relatively low carbonation level, but its there. A good coffee profile. Minimal bitterness.

(D)- A no nonsense coffee stout with the flavor you would expect. I could see having a few of these around for Fall.

Had in Milwaukee at hinterland. Pours black under a ½” tan head, very creamy, tastes like a nitro beer, excellent lacing, coffee and dark malt flavors, touch of chocolate. Slight coffee chocolate aroma, medium full body. Soft in the mouth.

Pours a very dark brown with tan head. Coffee, tons of it on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some roasted malt, raw cocoa and more coffee. Solid coffee stout.

16 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch light tan head. Head retention is decent, and there's a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like coffee, roasted malt, and some bittersweet chocolate. The taste is the same as the aroma, it's all coffee, roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit slick and creamy with moderate carbonation. I think it's a good overall brew, and a nice coffee stout. I've been waiting to try this one for a while now, and I wasn't disappointed. I'm a fan of Hinterland's 16 ounce bottles, too. $9.99 a 4-pack.

(Served in a nonic)

A- This beer pours a dense opaque black with a thin tan head even with a rigorous pour it is soon gone. There is a slow gentle carbonation.

S- The coffee black malt has dark rich caramel malt support.

T- The big dark coffee blend with black roasted malt that has some nice dry and chalky qualities and a nice roasted malt linger.

M- The light mouthfeel has a big scrubbing fizzy finish that scrubs the tongue and no alcohol heat.

O- The big coffee softer stout flavor with is rich but not much depth and is a bit thin in the body with a nice dry finish.

A: Pours a dark black with about a finger of chocolate-colored head. The head quickly fades into little more than a ring, but leaves nice lacing.

S: Lots of roasted malts. There's some coffee aroma in there as well, but surprisingly little for a coffee stout.

T: Similar to the smell, lots of roasted malts with the coffee kicking in at the end leaving a bitter coffee aftertaste.

M: Medium body with medium carbonation. The body is a bit watery, though.

D: Drinks pretty smoothly, though with the bitter coffee aftertaste and watery body, I wouldn't want more than one.

Overall, not a bad beer, but I was expecting a much stronger coffee presence from a beer advertising itself as such.

100% random grab while in Tampa a month ago. Stored in fridge since returning and reviewed from full notes over the weekend.

A- Super loud hiss as the bottle opens but no overflow. It pours mostly as foam with a black body and one hand head of infinite foam and retention. Tablespoons of thick lace.

S- Pretty much just coffee happening for me here. Medium roast and earthy with some burnt grains backing it up. Toasted nuts.

T- Coffee grounds follow the nose and are truly the focal point of the beer. Somewhat oxidized with a certain old coffee bean feel at times. Charred malts, toast, caramel sweetness and chocolate form the base. Mocha.

MF- Supremely foamy body as the appearance may have suggested, pretty much more air than liquid in each sip. Stinging high carbonation but the foaminess does take some of the edge off.

Foam and coffee bomb. Carried a solid flavor despite the body but falls flat in some areas and the taste feels inconsistent.
