Good
Notes: IPA has a roasty amber color with a lacy, beige head to top it off. With citrus and floral aromas, a pronounced hop presence fills the nose. A slightly biscuity flavor with well balanced bitterness and a malty sweetness finishes with a dry mouthfeel and a lasting bitterness.

Pours copper/dark orange color with a medium head, def looks very appealing in the glass.

I smelled a well balance between sweet, fruity tones and some lingering earthy tones.

Taste doesn't hit you with hops right away, but lingers at the end. I get most of the fruitiness flavors I like in an IPA at the end. Well balanced. I like the taste a lot. Not like your typical, all hops IPA. Doesn't leave that bitter taste in your mouth. Finishes very clean.

Heavy and smooth in the mouth. I think the balance of the flavor helps this aspect.

Now that this is offered in the Chicagoland area I'll definitely be seeking this brew out. I love the 16oz 4-Packs, bottles are cool shape too. Haven't been too excited about many WI breweries, but Hinterland has a solid lineup.

I had Hinterland IPA in a nonic pint.

Appearance- This one has a hazy and dark amber body with slim copper-gold highlights. The finger width, white head looks puffy with a smooth cap.

The foam dies quickly and leaves behind spotty lacing, just enough fizz left over to cover the lid.

Smell- Earthy and dank hops are the notable bit of this nose. I finally get some sweet, biscuit malt after a couple go-rounds. There is not much depth to this IPA's nose.

Taste- The beer starts out a little bitter on the palate, then gets to REALLY bitter, not very intriguing in the flavor hops department. The flavor hops feel a little grassy, with a grainy and piney back end.

The sweet malt is sort of there, but incredibly soft. Nothing really stands out about these flavors, it is a ho-hum experience.

Mouth feel- This one is too carbonated. It is hard to catch the medium to light body through all the bubbles. They do not work well with the bitterness of the IPA.

Overall- This beer has average written all over it. I do enjoy the scent of the malt, but it all but disappears on the palate. I also think more of that earthy hop tone on the palate would have helped.

This IPA seemed to be all about the bittering hops and not about being flavorful. A bigger feel and less carbonation would also have been appreciated.

Pours a cloudy honey straw with a half finger of head that quickly dissipates to a ring with some lacing. Heavy pine on the nose. Taste is resinously piney with some bitterness at the end. On the thin side.
