Notes: Rocky Road Milk Stout

HEEYYY YOU GUYS! We brewed this decadent confection with one of our favorite duos in mind and their shared love of Rockyroad ice cream. Made with real ice cream, cacao nibs, marshmallow, toasted almonds, and lactose. This beer might just make you want to do the truffle shuffle.

Brownish black bod with a tan foam head. Get almond and vanilla in the waves of chocolate in the nose, fainter for such a dessert beer. Taste slaps in comparison: sweet chocolate with gooey marshmallow, vanilla and almond meteors crashing in and a sweet creamy finish. Feel stays lighter but creamy, doesn't cloy but has decent sweetness. The wife liked it

16 oz can, no date, into Crane snifter.
Advertised as a Rocky Road Milk Stout. 8% ABV.

Pours a medium brown from the can which forms a dark brown in the snifter with a 1/2 finger of head that recedes to a creamy ring in a matter of seconds. No lacing here.

Aromas of earthy cocoa, marshmallow paste, cocoa puffs, nuts, roasted malt, and hints of sickly sweet caramel. Some slight elements of black tea as well.

Flavor brings the milk stout forward, never losing focus on its base. Roasted malt starts it off, with a hit of lactose, and then vanilla, caramel, nuts, and Hydrox chocolate cookie. The flavors kind of intertwine and muddle together. After a few sips it just tastes like chocolate pudding. An earthy bitterness is underneath it all keeping it from nosediving into cloy-land, and there's a nice alcohol heat on the finish.

Feel is creamy and huge, with a buzzing carbonation and a very welcoming and present alcohol heat. Dries out a bit on the finish.

Overall, a more earthy, chocolatey cousin of Fluffaluffagus. It's a very decent 8% milk stout that at times gets a little overpowering on the sweetness even though there's not much focus on its delivery to the palate. I can pick out the individual notes, but they're melded together before I had a chance to identify them, resulting in subsequent sips to help me out. If you think of it as a chocolate pudding stout with slight marshmallow, you will be pleasantly surprised. It nearly tastes like the base for their Single Barrel they did last summer. This was nice, but finishing the 4 pack will be a little tough as it skews on the sweet side. It is however an outstanding value for stout fans who have a sweet tooth.

Price paid : $11.99/4 pack
Would buy again : Nah, they have done better

White Elm Copperpot Rocky Road Milk Imperial Stout, 8% ABV. Pours black with a one finger tan head that left no lacing. Nose is strong chocolate, lactose, and marshmallow/vanilla, taste follows, quite sweet, slightly bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, overall world-class pastry stout. Knowing them, White Elm will barrel-age some eventually.
