On tap at the brewpub in the fair city of Bakersfield. Really dark brown, not quite black color with a modest head. Served in the usual pint shaker. Not much aroma.

The grainy taste has a distinct coffee note. Fairly light body with less carbonation than optimum. A pleasant perfumey taste along with the richness of roasted barley. Slightly sweet with a pleasant maltiness. There is just a little of the burnt barley taste. The aftertaste provides a little hoppy bitterness. Good flavor and it would be excellent with a little more spritz.

Poured on-tap at the brewery into a pint glass, the beer is a drak blood-brown color, with a thin, light head. The smell was a bit of a conundrum. It was sweet, almost fruity, yet almost caramel, with a little bit of coffee, but none of these specifically at the same time. Very confusing for the nose. Definitely a lot going on. The beer has barley flavors, mixed with what tasted like nutella and fruit flavors (dark berries). There were also tones of red wine in the beer. The brew was very light for a porter, with a coffee finish. The broad mix of scents and flavors make this a confusing drink, if that makes any sense whatsoever. Combined with the lightness of the beer, it was not a high rating in my book in regards to American Porters, but something that I wouldn't mind trying and reviewing again. It's almost like a riddle that you just can't figure out, and even after having the answer, you still want to work it out.

had it in a growler. poured a nice dark cocoa brown with a light tan head about quarter of an inch high. smell is nice, good roasted scents of sweet malts. taste is good, nice roasted malt flavor with little accents. the mouthfeel is a little flat and thin but its pretty smooth going down. it's a pretty drinkable beer but one or two would do it for me.

Had on tap at Lengthwise
Poured dark brown with a nice tan head that left some foam on the glass. Nose was roasty and smooth. Taste was creay, very creamy and roasty. It was rather thin bodied, even watery, to thin for my liking but it had god taste.Mouthfeel was nce, creamy and very drinkable.

From a sample glass at the brewery.

Very deep brown color bordering on black. Good clarity when held up to light. Nice, lasting tan head. Very nice looking beer.

Aroma primaily consisted of roast malt notes. Overall, smelled like a robust porter or dry stout should.

Fairly rich, creamy, robust poter/stout flavor. Some bitterness, primarily from roast malt. Additional malt complexity became apparent in finish. I think I detected a slight infection sourness at the very end, but it was fairly subtle. Somewhat dry mouthfeel. Moderate carbonation. Medium-light body, but creaminess enhanced impression of body.

Sample at the brewpub: Very dark brown color that lets little light through. Medium thin beige head with good retention and thin spotty lacing. Aroma of coffee and sweet malt. Medium-bodied and creamy with a fair amount of roasted coffee flavor, plus some caramel and malt too. The finish remains creamy and sweet, with a bit of coffee bitterness left over. Right up there with the Centennial as far as my favorites from this brewpub.
