Location near my hotel. Had a flight of 8 of their beers, varying from half-decent to decent to fairly good to interesting to diacetyl bomb. Had also 1/4 duck with sauerkraut and dumplings, and managed to eat most of it. Reasonably priced. Fast service. If I go back to Prague, I might well pop in here again.

A good brewery in downtown Prague. You actually sit next to their brewing equipment and can even see - though from behind windows - beer simmered in pool-like containers.
Apart from that, they produce perhaps the best pale lager in Czech. You can also have beer tasting there and drink 8 kinds of their beers including "green beer", something they make for Easter... They also have fruit beers and one fermented with champagne yeast.
They serve traditional Czech cuisine, good quality, would recommend to anyone who is interested in something else than the commercial Pilsner Urquell pubs.

After a hectic morning in the touristy, old town of Prague, a crowded streetcar ride on a rainy day led us to this quiet spot in a everyday part of the town. The waiter spoke far better English than I spoke Czech and not only did he tolerate my attempts, but he did his best to improve my knowledge of the local language. I had 500ml each of the obscenely inexpensive Štěpán in both the dark and light and enjoyed both while watching the local folks move along the rain soaked streets. The family ordered their normal dumpling meals while I thoroughly enjoyed the Czech version of the German Haxe (pork knuckle). We left feeling both satisfied and refreshed from a busy day in a lovely city.

Visited Aug 2015. City centre microbrewery pub in New Town. You can see the beers fermenting through windows. Interesting selection of beers ranging from nettle to sour cherry with about 8. Flights were available but looked pricey. 2 beers tasted were both very good particularly the special, Grodziskie. Serves staple Czech food which looked good. Not the greatest ambiance and had touches of gimmickry with the different beer types.

Was very excited to go here, excited by the promise of innovative and creative beers that are unusual in this part of the world...a beer brewed with nettles! Sour cherry beer ( I love sours)! Banana beer! If you are a beer geek who thinks this could be interesting you may be pretty disappointed. While none tasted contaminated or bad, none really tasted that great either. The sour cherry wasn't sour...it smelled like strawberry shortcake and was quite sweet. The nettles beer was ok, but didn't have much going on. I can enjoy wells banana bread beer but this just tasted one-dimensional. I got a sampler tray with all the drafts, which included more conventional styles as well, and the hefe Weiss was the best. Beer geeks I think will find this place disappointing. I see the positive reviews here but my experience of the beers was 'meh'. None made me want to finish my sampler glass. My friend enjoyed his goulash (although I tasted the sauce and thought it was way sweet and not so tasty). I got the sander fish, it was 'ok' but the preparation was like baked or broiled with no seasoning. It came with cooked spinach, also with zero seasoning, if it wasn't bone dry I would have thought it was spinach from a can. The veggies promised on the menu were some sliced raw red bell peppers. No dressing. Plus points for being healthy, but this was the only flavorless meal I had in 21 days in Europe... Even a pat of butter would have helped the spinach and fish. Service was okay. I would not go back here. I think they are trying to do innovative beers for the Czech Republic but need to revisit these recipes and perhaps have more feedback and creative exchange with those who are also brewing 'outside the box'.

This place was interesting... it had a decent selection of beer, 5-6 taps I think, all their own, some bottles as well a mix of their own and other locals. A very high class place it seems, nice atmosphere. The food was great, I got the Pig knuckle, it was enough to feed a small army and was soo friggen good, and cheap. I would go back for that alone. Their beers were decent, nothing too special overall. Service left a little something to be desired though. I stopped there twice, once for a couple beers, then back again on my way back for dinner. The first time the waitress was not very attentive, and not very helpful. Teh second time the waiter was a bit better, very friendly, seemed more attentive but that's probably because I was so preoccupied with all the food and beer.

On 02OCT13 Alewife and I did some touring of castles in the countryside. After arriving back at the station we took a short walk here for dinner.

Easily found on one of the main streets in Praha, it is located on the ground floor of a drab, blah-looking, grey block building. There are many large windows through which you can see brewing stuff and contented diners/drinkers. There's a small bar and lounge-type area on the right, with some tables set up on the left. Down a short hallway are other rooms with plenty more tables of various sizes. The incandescent lighting gives off a warm glow, and most walls are dark wood. Shelves hold old bier bottles and many old photos of years gone by adorn the walls. Our server was quite attentive and spoke English quite well (whew!). They had a basic hell and dunkel, plus some odd-ball biers, like a wheat, a coffee bier, and a nettle bier (??). I had the hell, Alewife the dunkel, and we both enjoyed our offerings. She dined on the Wiener Schnitzel while I wolfed down the superb Brewers Gulasch. The food was A-1, the biers solid, and the overall experience quite enjoyable. Prosit!

I've been to this brewpub 3 times, although on my first visit the pub was too crowded to handle my party of 5 or more people. But I was there long enough to see some strange looking beers, a couple of tables with giraffes, and a generally attractive appearance; I also noted a fine atmosphere and vowed to return if possible. This review is based on two return visits in July 2011.

This brewpub doesn't serve the largest number of different beers, but their variety can match the on-site brews of any pub I've ever been in. Besides the usual array of Czech beers -- light and dark lagers -- they have banana beer, the very odd nettle beer (it's naturally green), an excellent sour-cherry beer, coffee beer, beer champagne, beer brandy, and some others. Visitors can get a nice sampling wheel to try the standard and eccentric beers. Sampler aside, prices seem a bit high (by Czech standards), but the beer is very good quality and many are unique.

This pub is very near to a tram stop and walking distance to the Old Town section, but far enough from any main tourist area to attract, I think, more locals than tourists. My first trip here was with locals.

I ate here on both occasions and the food was very good each time. Service was professional if a bit less warm than some from other parts of the world might hope for. English menus are available and most servers speak some English. Menu features traditional Czech foods. There are several different seating areas, but not seats at the bar. Tours of the brewing facilities are available on occasion (I think depending on how busy they are.

I hope to return again, hopefully with a bunch of people so that I can have a giraffe at my table -- also to get a tour and find out more about both the 'regular' and the weird brews.

Highly recommended.

Place was slammed beyond belief, but we managed to get a table with speaking limited czech. The food was great, typical czech fare and weel done. I had the wheel or beers sampler but I can't rememeber them enough to write reviews. Service was shady at best but they were busy. Waitress was bitchy and didnt care much. I lived and czech for 6 months and understand the culture and how to order but this chick was rude. Overall, this place was great but sister pub pivoarsky Klub is way better. worth checking out be aware of crowds and going during peak hours.

It was midday and we were the only customers. The setting is rather simple, normal tables, not too much decoration and a working brewing equipment. Service was ok, but it could have been more friendly, it seemed that they would have preferred to use the opportunity to chat given there were very few customers in the pub.

No idea about the food, but beer was very good, including the nettle one.

Prices were rather high for Czech standards, but cheap for a visitor from almost any other European country. It is certainly worth visiting and trying their beers.

wandered over to this place from our hotel in the old town, maybe a 15 minute walk

nothing overly special with the atmosphere - main floor is primarily tables suited for serving food.

the food, as it so happens, was awesome. This brewprub is a great dinner option - i had the duck (massive) with dumplings and the menu was filled with "traditional czech" cuisine at very reasonable prices (all entrees below $10 american)

the beer was pretty good too - i had the light dark, bock, and coffee. i also sampled the champagne beer from the bottle, which was pretty nice.

it was a unique way to find out that its often customary to have communal seating in Prague. We were seated at a small 4-top where 2 lads were already eating. Awkwardness was avoided though, since we were speaking different languages

very happy with this spot

Decent sized place with probably around 12-15 tables scattered around upstairs. Had a number of beer-centric decorations. The wait staff was good, attentive, and fast and the food was out extraordinarily fast (although the couple next to me got their food just fast). Nice selection of Czech and psuedo-Czech food, with smaller dinners reasonably priced, having just been to Germany, the serving size seemed a little smaller for the regular size, but that was a nice change of pace. The goulash was good and the Bohemian dumplings were also quite good. They don't have a huge beer selection, but they have some unique offerings that they brew. I had the nettle beer and the coffee beer, both good and interesting, but not amazing. The beer is quite cheap, for ,3 l of the beers they brew, it cost 38 CZK (about €1.50 in 2010).

All in all, it is nice place to get a quick little bite to eat and try some interesting beers. Definitely worth a visit (or go to the Pivovarsky Klub) if you are in Praha.

I stayed at a fantastic (and inexpensive) hotel across the street from this place. I'm not into lagers or pilsners, so I was really happy that they brewed all kinds of other stuff!

The nettle beer is a must-try. So pretty and green! Honestly, the sour cherry beer was a bit disappointing (maybe because there are too many amazingly good cherry beers out there).

The venison goulash is amazing, but I can only handle so much Czech food. I think I went there at least 3 times during my stay in Praha.

Just outside the city center but close to the New Town Brewpub and U Fleku. This place makes all manner of weird flavored beers. I suggest sticking to the dark and light unfiltered/unopasteurized lagers; some of the best in Prague. Very tasty; but banana and nettle beer is not my thing. Go for the beer (they will serve it to you in a giant 4 liter thingy; food and service were solid. I had the braised/roast pig knee (Koleno) HUGE portion served with mustard, grated horseradish and cole slaw. I waddled out....

Went for dinner on a friends birthday back in December of 2007. He got one of the 4 liter tubes of the dark lager for himself, and the waitress looked at him like he was crazy. He managed to finish it in a pretty timely fashion with barely any help too. I got the eight beer sampler for 88 crowns I think. Pretty decent prices. The unfiltered light and dark lager are both quite good, and I really liked the wheat beer, despite its lower ratings. The flavored beers got a little questionable, but all were interesting, and the nettle was the only one that was downright nasty. The variety and ambitiousness of their beers really made Dum stand out from the other brewpubs I visited. The food was typical Czech, but pretty good.

Made my way out here on a cold Monday night in early January - it wasn't that hard to find once I got my bearings coming out of the subway stop. Was discouraged to see a line of about 20 people outside the door, but being alone, I managed to cut in and grab a spot at the bar. The bartender, who spoke neither English nor German nor Russian, made it clear to me that I could stay there as long as I had no food. OK, and thanks for the warm welcome.

The place is pretty non-descript, quite large and well-lit. The floor is checkerboard tile, with more checkerboard tile on the walls. The ceiling is high and industrial. Fairly new looking wooden tables and chairs, in two rooms, enough to seat maybe 150. The bar is tiny, less than two meters/yards across, with no stools. They clearly want you to sit. One waitress was willing to admit that she spoke a bit of English. Otherwise, you are on your own.

I had the sampler: pale, dark, Hefeweizen, sour cherry, coffee, banana, nettle and the monthly special - Tokai. Couldn't quite figure out what that last one was, but it was stronger and, frankly, better than the rest. The pale and dark were solid, but far from spectacular. The others were interesting, but I also had the impression that they were just flavored pales. Must admit, though, that the coffee was intense and the nettle very intriguing. The beers were in good shape and served at the right temperature in appropriate glassware. I had the impression that they do what they have to, but they do it only because they have to. There's not much passion here. Unfortunate.

I also had an adventure getting here, when in the end I was so close on a couple occaisions.

The bar room is nothing to write home about. A small little bar when you walk in, but I was shooed away - and told to sit.

A very nice waitress with just a little english helped me enough that I ordered a sampler. Some good, several gimmicky - like an apple beer. The pils was the best I had in Prague! Nothing much else jumped out at me - the dark lager was pretty good. Stout missed the mark.

If you want to avoid the typical pils bar scene in Prague, this worth a visit, particularly if you you are with a group. Being solo for the night, sitting at a table for 4 jsut didn't cut it.

Another story of how the mighty have fallen. If I had been writing this review after my first visit to Pivovarsky Dum in 1999 it would have got straight 5s.

Sadly today it is a pale replica of the glory days.

Yes the beers are still good and the food is still filling, but the problem is that they have stayed still while the competition have caught up and in some case surpassed the original.

Perhaps the most damning indictment of Pivovarsky Dum is that in their spin off pub, Pivovarsky Klub, things are much better. Also the fact that for PK the standard lager sold under the Stepan brand name is contracted out to Pivovar Kacov, who do a far better version of the same beer.

Still a good place, but not one I go to regularly anymore.

The room is somewhat contemporary, but not overly bright.

The food was fairly priced traditional Czech, with the occasionally pricey meal with an absurd portion. It pairs nicely with the beer, but didn't strike me as anything special.

I wrote a great story about a Budweiser swilling, redneck lowlife who goes to Prague on vacation. There he befriends a local hooligan, the two remain continually drunk and talk big about violence, sharing stories of bloodied wives and kicked puppies. For inspiration I set myself in various drinking establishments around the Czech Republic. Technical aspects of the story may have faltered during my lapses into drunkenness. Great beer at cheap prices can throw a boy out of sobriety very quickly, but inebriation led to interactions and altercations with other clientele and barmaids which ultimately improved my content.

I first set myself in Prague, so I naturally ended up in the Pivovarský Dům. This was during the cold snap, sitting and drinking became entirely necessary to my survival while in the Czech Republic. Grog kept me alive, but beer kept me happy. There are many rat-holed and filthy bar rooms in that city, but this is not one of them. In fact, the Pivovarský Dům seems quite the classy bar room for a boy trying to stay on top of his finances and out of the gutter. The cleanliness of the WC impressed me to no end. Of course, the beer costs more in a establishment so renowned and so well maintained. It is all delicious, I’m not going to talk about its bouquet or its viscosity, fuck that. I’m not even going to talk too much about the fact that it was delicious, just believe me, I know.

I walked in playing the role of the ignorant American youth type saying hello, looking foolish. The waiter knew right away to grab the bright green English language menu. On it where a few frou-frou cherry wimp wheat beers, one of which, when served to me, had traces of something red on the head. Like they’d squirted some sort of syrup into what was already an oversweet beer. Turns out, they had just dropped a cherry in there. They were even audacious enough to stick a lemon on the brim of a glass already reeking of a grove. Then there is the traditional Czech lager, light or dark? You can even have the two mixed, which makes for an interesting beer drinking experience, enjoyable. I could taste Saaz hops! I was happy: exceptional beers.

I sat with a view of the front door and street. One thing bothered me. Foolish looking folks with dull eyes, clueless, lost, out of place half-wits standing in front of the door straining, “Do I come in?” One of these assholes came in to try and peddle cheap ball point pens, a big man quick put him out.

I sat for hours, hell bend on obtaining oblivion. Once there, I ordered the sausage smothered in the dark beer sauce. After that, I stepped out for a stroll along Ječna, down some steps, up a narrow, dimly lit path and into my warm bed.

It was that night at the Pivovarský Dům that I came up with a way to murder my protagonist. He got his throat slashed by a hot, dark haired Czech call girl.

Let me just say I was planning on eating dinner here. When I arrived at 7:00, I found a line trailing out of the door. I waited about 15 minutes, but the rest of my group got antsy so we went to a pizzaria around the corner (which was delightful I might add).

Anyway... we came back after dinner to partake in a few beverages, and found a table for 6 after a very short wait.

The restaurant is split into an upstairs (non-smoking) area, and a downstairs (smoking area). The upstairs is nice a roomy with huge copper tanks in the main seating area. Big windows show the open-air fermenting tanks, where you get to see the brewer work his craft.

The waitress is quick and knowledgable, but the place is extremely crowded, so she informs us that if the rest of the party didn't show within 15 minutes, she would have to give away the table. I was a bit put off by this, but I can understand where she's coming from.

In total, there are 7 specialty beers if my memory serves me correctly, in addition to 2 or 3 mainstay czech lagers (both light and dark). Most of their brews are .3L servings, however, if you're feeling bold you can grab a 4L table tap. This place also serves 500mL, 750mL, and 5L portions to go.

All in all, a must see in Praha.

There are seven kinds of beer made onsite and I think a couple of others on offer. I had the dark lager, the coffee and sampled the cherry and nettle flavors. All were very good, two were if nothing else quite interesting.
The food is more expensive than some places but pretty average if you were to dine down in the main tourist part of town. There are some meat items available I I had never seen on a menu before. Overall I thought the food was very good. Definately traditional Czech fare. Worth seeking out.

Visited this brewpub for three times during my stay in Praha two months ago. This is simply the best brewpub in Praha, IMO, for its nice range of quality beers, modern atmosphere, comforable and spacious interior, and, most importantly, quite friendly service which I didn't get in two, three other brewpubs there.

In the main sitting area at the front one can't miss a medium-size bronze beer-tank sitting at a corner, not just for decoration but in service! Beside it a separate room with three open-air fermentation tanks is divided from the cafe by a huge glass windows, through which one can see the brewers in full action and get an idea of what beers are being brewed now~~ The food was o.k., with lots of traditional Bohemia offers, plus some regional and some modern dishes. It turned out the traditional food was more "honest" (i.e. in portion) than the modern ones...

The atmosphere was mixed, with local drinkers decorated with tourists from all over the world (lots of Czech tourists too!). Not too loud, but lack of coziness... Beers on tap, all seven(?) of those, were extremely fresh and pretty nice, plus a "Champange Beer" availabe in bottle-conditioned version which is ju...st blissful... I grabbed two bottles of that and one still sits in my little-corner-cellar maturing~~

Overall, this is a good honest place for fun and quality beers. Not pretentious, not too touristic, and very friendly. A must-go for all beer lovers when visiting Praha!!

Great food! Some really (and bad) beers. Awesome value. A prodigious amount of cigarette smoke (but that describes pretty much all of Eastern Europe).

the champagne beer was awesome. Never had anything like it. The other beers were good but skip the "nettle beer" though it's an interesting bright green color.

It's easy enough to get to, two tram stops up from the subway (or a 10 minute walk uphill). The food was really good and an incredible value, my wife and I ate and drank and brought home a couple bottles of champagne beer and the whole night came to less than 30 US Dollars. Such a deal.

It's tough to get a seat and if you're a party of two, you'll wind up sitting with other people which isn't an issue except when they're blowing smoke in your face, which (incredibly) they do (and think nothing of it).

Anyway, it's worth it to go to this place, it's different than most of the other beer places in Prague and the combination of really good beer and GREAT food, and an awesome value make it a place not to miss. Hint: go with 4 people and get your own table.

I really enjoyed this place. The beer was good, with pretty much the best selection you'll find anywhere in prague. The atmosphere was decently nice on the occasions I went, although some might have minded the group of scottish men beginning their stag party, complete with the groom-to-be dressed as the "gimp", leather outfit and all, I found it amusing and they weren't so loud as to be bothersome.

The food is awesome. The gulᚠwasn't anything spectacular, however the svíčková was excellent (see another review of mine for the best in prague), and I would highly recommend it to anyone. Moreover the bramboráčky were by far the best I had in my whole stay in the czech republic. This isn't a review of potato pancakes, so i won't go into too much detail. But, for 35 crowns you have to get some. Finally, for dessert the knedlíky were awesome. The dough was nice and soft and the tvaroh was awesome.

prices aren't too bad. It's certainly not the cheapest place around, but the food is well worth the money and I didn't have any qualms with throwing down 200 or so crowns for my whole meal (though you can spend much more than that if you want to...).

One of the best places I ate at while in Prague. My biggest complaint was how hot it was inside. I was drenched when I left. The service was very good and there is an extensive menu and more beers than most places carry in Prague. At least 8 that I sampled. My favorite meals were the duck and scnitzel and the crepes with beer syrup for dessert are amazing. They have most of their beers on tap, but make sure you ask for the champagne beer because it will not come with a sampler because it is only bottled. Great food and good beer. Not all the beer was great, but they carry an interesting selection that will make you think you are in an American brewpub except this one has traditional Czech fare.

I found this place to have a nice atmosphere. I saw many plates of heaping food pass, though I did not indulge myself, and saw many smiles on the happy patrons. I gather the food is good. Nice place to grab some chow and a brew. Unfortunately, the bar is only long enough to fit 3 people, but I was able to squeeze in. The service was good and though the bartender didn't speak English, a waitress helped us out. They had a nice selection, 7 beers I believe, and I had a full sampler. I was impressed by the uniqueness of each beer and the fact that they were served at the perfect temperature. The flavored beers and the stout stood out, though none were bad and all were probably average or above. Worth stopping in when in the neighborhood (it is in central Prague).

Not a bad place! Very interesting decor, a reasonably large establishment, lots of beer! You can ask for English menus and my waitress spoke English. Food is decent and reasonably priced, I got the rabbit which wasn't my favorite, but then again I've never had rabbit before, so I have nothing to compare it too. But the menu was pretty big also, there is a large selection, and for what it's worth I would like to go back.

The beer was very interesting. I tried, or shared, their light lager, dark lager, black and tan version of them combined, a banana beer, a sour cherry beer, a nettle beer (I guess like pine needles? It was green in any case), and a champagne beer. Of these I liked the champagne beer best. The banana beer was very interesting, to say the least, and I recommend at least trying it once. I believe the sour cherry beer was a bit too sweet for my tastes. The lagers, as I remembered them, were not that different from the typical Czech lager. The champagne beer was interesting, poured in a very cool, very small, bulky, stubby champagne style glass. One of the most carbonated beers I've ever had. I didn't like the nettle beer, the tastes of beer and grass or whatever don't compliment each other.

Overall, a pretty good establishment. I will go back if I can.

Pivarsky Dum is the restaurant part of Pivo Praha, a Prague microbrewery specializing in Flavored beers. The restaruant also offers tours of the brewery.

We got in and the service was generally fast and friendly. Our waitress was fluent in english. Menus were in both english and Czech.

Beers are most unique. Ranging from traditional light and dark to a bright green nettle flavored beer. Prices are high for the CZ, and by high I mean maybe a dollar every .33 liters.

Food was solid czech fare if not amazing. Portions are offered in a small and large, with appropriate price changes.

The main focus is on the beer. There are about 7 varieties on tap (light, dark, coffee, Banana, Nettle, Wheat, cherrie). You can also order bottles of the cherry and a champaigne beer (tastey). Samplers are offered reasonably cheaply.

A small piece of advice, the beer is served a bit too cool. Let them warm a little before drinking and you'll find much more flavor.

They also serve a number of beer mixed drinks. I wasn't too impressed with the one I had, but it was worth trying. A beer grog and Beer brandy are also featured.

I enjoyed tasting the beers very much, and am looking foward to returning.
