Brewed with Curaçao orange, elderflower & chamomile.
Refreshing & crisp with a fruity, flowery finish.

Barentsz, Bears & Beer

When Willem Barentsz attempted to navigate the Northeast Passage, his crew fought twin terrors: polar bears and frozen beer. Our White Ale, with its refreshing fruity notes, is a tribute to the restless and rugged spirit that kept Barentsz going.

L- Attractive Victorian style old-school engraving for a lable, featuring a giant polar bear towering over a tiny sailing ship, against a background of snow-capped mountains [the reason is explained on the bottle!].
Pours ultra pale straw with just a hint of haze. 5mm ultra-fine white head, holds well.
S- The quite spicy nose, is clearly of the 'wit' style.
T- The flavour reminds me of it too. It's a complex taste with many facets, none of which dominate over another.
F- It's been crafted with care as to the balance, it's the opposite of a mono-dimensional blunt instrument. The neck lable states 'Brewed with botanicals' and that's clear, it's harder for me to specifically ID any of the primary three (listed below)...
O- ... I think a positive. This would be a fantastic beer to enjoy outdoors on a hot day.
330ml £3.00 from Harvey Nicols London SW1. BBE: Oct-2020
Lable states it is brewed with 'Curacao orange, elderflower and chamomile - refreshing and crisp with a fruity and flowery finish'.

ps. chill and pour with care, there is significant residue at the bottom of the botttle.

It is a "classic" witbier brewed with curaçao orange, elderflower and chamomile.
ABV: 5%

The beer pours medium hazy and light yellow with a one finger high, white head that leaves no lacing on the glass.

Nose: Herbs, orange peel, citrus, elderflower, peach, marzipan, white pepper and caramel.
Taste: Citrus, herbs, orange, caramel malt, chamomile, elderflower and some other herbs I've having a hard time to select...
Mouth: Medium to light body. Crisp but light carbonated. Light bitterness at the end. It leaves the mouth fresh and fruity.

Very nice and very different whit. I like this!
I would love to have a few bottles to mu summer BBQ evenings :)

Pours as expected, cloudy straw with sediment and small white head which lingers. Some sudsy lacing left behind.

Aroma is very sweet nectary citrus - that elderflower - with cloves, herbs, spices, and plenty of orange peel. There's also a hint of pear and general bright fruit, along with something creamy and earthy - I'm assuming this is the chamomile coming through.

That Cucaçao orange definately kicks things off on the forefront of the tongue followed closely by a sweet, herbal imbroglio of flavours. The elderflower gives the whole witbier a lovely fragrant sweetness which permeates through each note, but not overly so. More of that citrus peel and clove comes through on the draught, and the aftertaste is a medley of fruit, botanicals and yeast, giving way to a balanced finish.

Feel is light, well carbonated and dry on the swallow.

Lovely beer, lots to pick out in the flavour profile with all those different additions. Beer is very well balanced, fragrant and crisp. Would recommend.

Typical witbier look: pale yellow haze with a good head of foam. Smell of pilsener hops, orange, malt and some chamomile. A rich taste with banana being prominent, but also hints of orange and lemon zest and quite some herbal flavours, with chamomile again among them. A very smooth and full mouth feel, a little sticky even. A very good witbier: a refreshing but usually not very exciting beer style, so it's always nice when brewers manage to make it stand out of the crowd.
