500ml can, from the 2017 Brewer's Advent Calendar, shared by a friend on his birthday.

This beer pours a clear, medium bronzed amber colour, with one zaftig finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves a bit of mitochondrial lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, some muddled dark orchard fruitiness, a hint of indistinct spice, and plain earthy, leafy, and herbal noble hops. The taste is bready and grainy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee sweetness, bruised apples and pears, and more understated earthy, leafy, musty green hop bitters.

The carbonation is quite understated in its wan-seeming frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess arising as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes sweet, and definitely fruity.

Overall - this is merely a run of the mill version of the style, mostly sweet and saccharine. Ultimately forgettable for me, but it looks like other people like it a lot, so what the hell do I know?

Appearance: Large and dense off-white head, with good persistence, Belgian-style lacing adorns the glass walls. The carbonation is slight and slow-rising.

Aroma: A profound dark bread notes and caramel dominate the aroma, though there are hints of dark fruit, as well. Earthy notes are present, and a slight spiciness.

Taste: The taste begins with a strong note of caramel and dark bread. As the taste progresses, a wave of dark fruits present, plum being the most notable. The relatively high ABV of 7.5% goes unnoticed, appearing neither in the taste, or as warmth. Finishes with a lingering note of dark caramel.

Mouth feel: Soft and full, excellent.

Drinkability/notes: Very nice and drinkable, a treat in the cooler months.

Presentation: Packaged in a 500 ml, 16.9 ounce steel can, served in a standard Pilsener glass. Beer number six (December 6th) from the 2017 Costco Advent Beer Calendar.

Pours a dark burgundy-brown, that still shines a ruby red when held directly up to the light. Head formation is two fingers and off-white in color. Good head retention with great lacing left behind. Aroma is bread, biscuit, and crystal malt. Nice density to the bread. Flavor profile is crystal, biscuit, and bread malts, working the palate from light to dark. Mouth feel is smooth and borderline creamy with a medium thickness. Overall, good use of malts in the flavor profile with the aroma lingering just a touch behind. It's a well constructed beer otherwise.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 16oz can.

A friend gave me this tallboy can from a 25 beers of Christmas set that he got at CostCo. The fact that Kartauser includes their dopplebock in a 25 beers of Christmas box set makes me appreciate it that much more.

Pours a dark amber color with a small one-finger head an no lace. The nose is earthy but muted. Faint banana, with a dull bread scent. Maybe a hint of apple or pear, it's hard to tell. The taste is better, though, with a sweet malty flavor, banana, plum, maple and faint clove. The mouthfeel is smooth, but not as textured as I'd expected it to be.

Overall, it's an underwhelming beer in my opinion. Not bad, but nothing exciting here. Perhaps my expectations were too high, although I'm not sure why thy would have been. A nice enough beer, but I don't see myself revisiting this one in the future. Cheers.

Prom the Advent box. Poured into a snifter. Crystal-clear ruby-copper color with a thick and dense tan head. Nice retention. Bready aroma with mainly biscuit and some caramel. No detectable hop aroma. Huge bready flavor, mainly following the aroma but with a fairly intense malty and almost spicy character. Smooth feel and medium bodied. By far my favorite thus far.

From the Costco Beery Advent Calendar. From the can, it pours a ruby-brown color with a nice head. Definite Caramel Malt in the nose. The mouth gets the rich malty flavor of yummy goodness. Yum!

One of the better cans in the Advent Calendar. Still goes in the 2017 Calendar.
