I came to Skully's to see a band that I liked. I didn't really know what to expect on the walk over. I was not let down. The venue consists of two areas. The back houses the dance floor and a small stage for the bands. Decently sized considering the caliber of music performers normally booked there. The front has your standard bar with tables around and booths along the walls. Overall, nice location, warm atmosphere and a decent selection of brews. I plan on returning to this place. Good time.

I came here for the Damnwells concert in October of '06. Skully's is located on the north end of the Short North neighborhood of Columbus.

Atmosphere: impressive; this venue is very clean and it seems like a pretty much mainstream crowd comes here, yet they seem to attract some pretty good acts on music scene; people that worked here seemed nice too
Service: a tad slow, could've been understaffed the night i came
Selection: good selection of draft beer (Columbus Pale Ale, Elevator Dopplebock, Blue Moon, Guinness, Double Diamond, Bass, a few other quality microbrews, then your typical assortment of macros); pretty good selection overall though
Food: I didn't have any so I can't rate it.
Prices: a little high for good beers but $1 pbr's is a great deal

Overall, I was impressed with Skully's. It's a good place to see some less known artists. The sound is good inside and it doesn't get too crowded. A pretty relaxed atmosphere. This isn't so much a place to sit down and get a good draft beer as it to see a good show though.

Skully's is basically a club with a restaurant in the front area. The beer selection is average, and pricey for the normal fare which is offered. The front area is really dark as was said before. There is a small, 3 table patio in front, basically a gate wrapped around the sidewalk.
There is a small upstairs area that has a pool table and overlooks the dance floor and bar in the back side. Dance floor is huge and fills up on thursday nights, when it's Ladies 80s night. In the warmer months, the backyard is open, with a bar and many umbrella tables and chairs. Basically it's a smokers haven back there since Skully's falls into the no smoking zoning of Columbus.
Skully's has bands on Fridays and Saturdays, and from my couple experiences then, I wasnt impressed with the bands, and by the half-empty bar, neither was the public.
Clientele runs the gamut: punks, goth, trendies, retros, etc. This is always good.

Skull'y is a bar/live music venue in the Short North area of Columbus. It's hard to miss because it has a very large neon sign. Parking either on the street or in a nearby lot should not be too difficult unless it is a busy weekend night.

Inside it is very dark and very red. The lighting is good if you are just there to drink but it is really difficult to read a food menu by candlelight. The bar kind of splits between the bar area and the music venue, There are lots of mirrors and one large screen TV precariously situated above the seating area in the bar.

The beer selection is simply average. Since we were there during happy hour the server was really only mentioning the domestic bottles that were $1 each and it was the usual stuff you expect. On draught they have Guinness, Bass, Blue Moon, Columbus Pale Ale and a few others that are pretty common (about 12 taps total). The music venue is bigger than I was expecting and attracts small bands seemingly from all over based on the schedule and flyers posted around the bar. There was a Johnny Cash tribute the night we were there.

The service was good despite the bar area being full and $1 beer/well drinks, especially considering there was only one server working the whole bar.

The menu claims "best burgers in town!" and the Skully burger I had was indeed very good.

All in all this spot is worth visiting at least once if you are in the area. Personally though, there are places a mile or two away where I would rather go whether I was looking for a beer, for some live music, or both.

An OK spot in the Short North that has a small selection of beer and an obvious market for its bar food. The atmosphere is more that of a night spot that waits for dark to fall so that the entertainment begins. Parking is dear here so you won't likely drop in because it's convenient.

This is a new bar-diner-club in the Short North that brings more good food, bands and beer to the neighborhood. Let's start with the beers. Like many, the micros they have are what they have on tap in addition to usual Bud/Guiness line up. Added to those searching for better on tap can have: Columbus Brewing's Pale Ale, Goose Island's Honker Ale, Elevator Brewing's Coal Porter and Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold. The food is the standard sandwiches, wraps, salads and such funk up a little to make them more interesting but still good comfort food. The restaurant-front bar area is seperate from the back area that is used during the weekdays for club music with a different scene each night, the most popular being 80s night. On the weekend they have a good mix of local bands lined up to play on Fridays and Saturdays.
