Brought to me by a friend after his recent stop in Austria, thanks Rob!
Pours with a half-finger of pure white foam that doesn't last long at all; a very average looking clear yellow color that doesn't even show off some carbonation rising.
Musky graininess in the aroma; sorta herbal hop that actual comes through relatively well and crackery maltiness for the aroma. The taste leans a little sweeter than suggested by the nose; some fruit (apples?) comes in and the aftertaste is not the most pleasant in the world, fairly minerally as well. MF is thinner to medium for the style, with some tiny bubbles. Not really great drinking, nothing interesting (even for the style), not too clean, and not all that refreshing. Eh.

Average beer, I was hoping for more. Beautiful retro label. Clear light golden. Average white head. Retention and lacing both average. Some hops in the aroma lend a floral and delicately spicy note to the straightforward malt. Lightly sweet and softly grainy malt is balanced in the flavor by subtly herbal hop flavors and a moderate bitterness. Light-medium in body with a median carbonation level. Dull, bitter finish. The Germans make great beer, the Czechs make great beer... why not the Viennese?
