Colt 45 Malt LiquorColt 45 Malt Liquor
Notes: Introduced in 1963 by the Baltimore, Maryland-based National Brewing Company, Colt 45 was named in honor of running back Jerry Hill, who was #45 on the 1963 Baltimore Colts football team. Through high-profile partnerships with actor Billy Dee Williams and comedian Redd Foxx — who both appeared in radio, print, and TV advertisements – Colt 45 established itself as the premier malt liquor beverage by the early 1970s.

It was also during this time that the iconic slogan, “Works Every Time,” became synonymous with the brand. The Williams relationship lasted for nearly four decades, until he passed the torch to music mogul, Snoop Dogg in 2010.

With Snoop at the helm, we’ve entered an exciting new Colt 45 era.

Served from 24 oz can into pint glass. Standard pale straw color, thin white head with wispy lacing. Aroma of toasted malt. Mouthfeel is medium with a dry finish. Flavors of cracker, corn, grain husks with some hops to balance the sweet malts. Overall: decent.

Gotta love it! It is the best malt liquor available, in my opinion. It has a balanced flavor between the malt, sweetness, and bitterness. When cold, it is very refreshing. It is quite drinkable. The flavor is inoffensive and works with a variety of foods. it is inexpensive and can be found easily (well that probably depends on where you live). I've only purchased it in 40 oz. Definitely interested in trying them in can form since the 40oz bottle doesn't preserve the beer too well over time. Unless I'm in celebration mode, I ain't drinking a whole 40oz in one day. Give it a try. Don't let the reputation of the brand or the type of beer influence your taste buds.

This is my favorite go-to/in a pinch beer when my local pay day advance shop won't accept me because I'm so far in the rears. It helps me forget about my awful day while I slam 2 tall boys behind the local gas station and then black out from huffing E85 gas. Smooth taste for a malt liqueur. Billy Dee Williams said it works everytime amd that is true.

Decanted from a 24 oz (710 ml) can into a custom taster pint; best by August 12, 2019, so evidently fairly fresh.
A: Pours a crystal clear, golden color with a one finger, white head, retention to most of a cap and rim, and somewhat soapy lacing. Tiny bubbles rose from the nucleation ring on the glass.
S: Aromas of corn, apple, and toast predominate. Maybe a slight phenol note after it had warmed a bit.
T: Semisweet. Flavors follow the nose with corn predominating and a citrusy note (or texture). Grainier and grainier as it warms. Light bitterness and a slightly (pleasantly) sweet aftertaste.
M: Light to medium bodied with light persistent carbonation. Slightly more astringent than would qualify for a clean finish.
O: I have never had this beer and assumed it would be pretty bad. I had to buy it at a gas station in a fairly seedy area of neighboring town, because none of the reputable distributors generally carry it. It actually fairly drinkable, so I wanted to be fair. Definitely light and sweet, a bit too sweet for, say, a lager, but I was certainly able to enjoy it. I did detect a couple of off characteristics, so I am downgrading it strictly on that basis.

Look: Medium straw color. Thick, long lasting head with some lacing.

Smell: Can't smell much of anything, a little sweet malt and corn.

Taste: Very, very balanced for a malt liquor. Sweet but not too sweet, corn, malt, the hops is there, but doesn't add bitterness.

Feel: Very clean finish, not syrupy. No aftertaste whatsoever.

Overall: One of the best malt liquors for casual drinkers. Not a super flavorful beer but whatever taste it has is good.

One of my top 3 for malt liquors only to be drank strait from the bottle 40oz is the only way to go best enjoyed ice cold only topped by a mickey's 40oz but still legendary in the realm of 40's for a reason.

While I think Mickey's is a below average but drinkable malt liquor. This is terrible. Again, haven't had it in over 20 years, but I remember it enough to steer clear.

Billy Dee Williams didn’t choose this bad boy for nothing. Colt 45 is my go to 40oz. Getting trashed couldn’t come easier. You buy a 40 for a good time not to grade it. It’s trash but good trash for the trashed. If you don’t get it in the brown bag you’re fucking up. Ride them horses to freedom. Only drink cold, when it gets warm the party’s over.

The taste was not what I had hoped for. It had a lasting lingering taste that was like the 'rust' of beer. Not a flavor as I had expected nor wanted. It certainly looked good and the smell wasn't all that bad but that taste was not the most flavorful. Not a beer I recommend.

Colt 45! Just the name brings back memories of High School and all night fishing trips. It has a decent taste. Nothing spectacular, a hoi polloi brew to give a good buzz quickly. It is a bit bitter sometimes but not bad. The smell is sweet. It is a nice golden color in the 40 bottle. The feel is decent. Overall, a good malt liquor. My favorite 40!

Pours a nice gold with several finger of quickly dissipating white head. Lots of visible carbonation.

Smells like something sweet like corn or rice adjunct. Some graininess.

Taste is like sweet creamed corn.

Feel is thankfully light and crisp and the flavor does not hang around.

Not a good beer. Just got a pint can to give it a wing ding. Well consider my wing ding done.

In my opinion, this is one of the most well done malt liquors on the market. There are some similarities with all economic malt liquors and colt 45 is no exception however, this beer seems to strike the perfect balance and deliver flavor. The look is classic. Traditional style can design has seemed to have very little change from years past, its a icon among the cheap beer world. I can't speak about the color or apperience because I drank this straight from the can.the smell is good. Typical beer smell that doesn't remind me of malt liquor, but rather along the lines of a Miller high smell bready, yeasty goodness. The taste is wonderful for a economic beer. Nice top end sweetness with the taste of white bread and yeast. The finish is somewhat dry and wet, leading you to take another sip.the is a nice rounded out taste of hops that balance the beer. The feel is medium with minimal carbonation bite, making for a smooth beer. Slightly light body and the drinkability is perfect. I really enjoyed this beer and I highly recommend you to try it.

This was an iconic high school drink. Coming back to it, I realize that one needs to be 18 or younger to truly enjoy this beer - its pale yellow with a fizzy white cap, nothing distinguishing in the aroma and even less in the flavor. The only reason to buy this is if it is on sale and you need a can to make beer butt chicken.

24oz can bb 10/29/18 poured into a plastic cup at slightly warmer than fridge temp, no ABV listed on can. The beer pours bright pale straw yellow with a nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is slight with a hint of sweetness, corn and lemon. The taste is fairly nuetral, with some grain and a bit of tartness. Mouthfeel is medium to thin bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. There is a bit of oily/ soapy finish, but it's not overwhelming and this is a $2 24oz can of malt liquor. Overall, good (malt liquor).

This is about the only malt liquor I can drink. Definitely get a 40 of it: there's something about the geometry of the bottle and the volume of liquid inside that magically makes it taste better.

Look: Yellow.
Smell: I've never consumed this out of the bottle but based on the odor of the belches resultant of consuming it, it isn't terribly nice.
Taste: Tastes good. It isn't foul syrup like all of the other malt liquors on the market. Definitely drinkable.
Feel: Fizzy. If you've ever wanted to burp the alphabet, this is what you need.

If you want to get absolutely trashed in a not so expensive or unpleasant way, this works every time.

24 ounce can into lager glass, best before 8/27/2018. Pours crystal clear medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. A bit of fruity aromas, but not overwhelming. Nice and pleasant aromas with pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness. Very mild herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, and mild herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finish. Very clean on lager flavors, with minimal fruity notes present. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 5.6%. Overall this is a good malt liquor. All around nice robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Very clean and nicely rich barley/grain flavors and mild earthy hop balance. Not overdone on the corn adjuncts at all. A nicely enjoyable offering. Well made and spot on style example.

Drank from a glass 40 ounce bottle. Scores and review are based within the style.

Look - The label is classic but not classy. Its tackiness and recognizability make it a winner in my book. The liquid inside is a bright gold color that foams up aggressively with each drink.

Smell - Absolutely nothing.

Taste - Mild corn sweetness, tiny hint of peppery alcohol.

Feel - Way too carbonated for me. A bit of a tough drink.

Overall - A very average drink, with not much to it. Its legendary status is definitely maintained by its numerous appearances in pop culture and its celebrity endorsements, not by the contents of its bottle.

For my money, one of the best malt liquors. Smooth and powerful. Begins with a nice foam and lacing is better than most light lagers. Tastes like Corn, good malt, fruity Apple with biscuit notes, actually has a very decent finish as long as you keep it cold. A good cheap buzz. Better tasting than many a BMC lager, cheaper too. 1.25 average, but I like it well enough to give it a 2.5 rating when one gets fresh bottles and cans. I like it for cheap malt liquor. If money's low, and you want a decent buzz, It's recommended. Works Every Time!!!

Look: Golden adjunct lager looks with a big, foamy white head.

Smell: What smell? No matter how much I tried, I couldn't smell more than the faintest waft of beer off in the far distance.

Taste: A phrase I heard about Maconochie Stew (a British ration in WW1) was "Warmed in the tin, Maconochie's was edible. Cold it was a man-killer." Colt 45 is the exact opposite. When cold, there's no flavor except carbonation and the very tiniest possible hint of corny adjunct. You could easily empty the can and fill it with carbonated water and someone wouldn't tell the difference. As it warms, a bland adjunct beer flavor starts to emerge but never quite enough to make drinking it anything more than boring.

Mouthfeel: Like carbonated water. Seriously.

Overall: Much like PBR, Colt 45 is only good for one thing: getting hammered because it tastes like nothing.

"Works every time." For what, I don't know. Still, not bad for what it is. When I want to intentionally "slum it" for an evening, I will pickup a few 24 oz or a 40.

Good lordy lord, where do I begin with this beverage. This malt liquor is probably the best money can buy. A lot of people immediately turn to Olde English when they are having a hankerin' for malt liquor, however I disagree wholeheartedly. Everything about Colt 45 proves that it is the superior malt liquor and holds authority over all other beverages on God's green planet.

Imagine you've had a rough day at work, you come home and your wife is yelling at you, kids are making a goddamn mess, and the Denver Broncos are on a losing streak. Things cannot seem to get any worse. But then, you see a commercial on the tube: Billy Dee Williams advertising the wondrous taste and charm of Colt 45. You think to yourself, "Hm, yeah I think I'll try it! After all Lando Calrissian drinks it, so it's gotta be worth a try."
Immediately you grab the keys to your Ford 150 and make your way downtown to the nearest fine establishment of liquor sales. You walk down the aisle and grab a large bottle of the delicious golden beverage and take it back home. As soon as you take the first sip of this delicacy, all of your problems begin to melt away. No more thoughts about mortgage, alimony over your children, or that crazy bitch of a wife you have. Now you are living the high life, the Colt 45 life.

The taste of this beer is quite exceptional, it is not offensive like Olde English or smelly like Mickeys. Everything about this drink is almost perfect. Plus, one of these bad boys will get you in the mood to do something meaningful, maybe something patriotic or noble, like donating to your local charity or helping out at the VA with veterans suffering from PTSD. When you drink this beverage, you will become a changed man. Everything you once knew about life was a lie, you will see beauty in all living things and creatures around you. You will become one with yourself and your surroundings. Hell, if you drink enough of this stuff you might even achieve enlightenment and reach Nirvana. I hope that everyone has a chance to try this delicious beverage.

Cons: The beverage's smell is a bit iffy, not as bad as Mickey's but still not that great.

Overall I give this a 10/10
