A lot of people don't like this beer and I can understand why. It's a very heavy beer that sometimes sits like a rock in your stomach. I, however, can't get enough of it. I am currently in college, and its a decent beer for the price.

I know I've rated this before and just haven't typed up my notes, but here's a quick rating for a can:

The self-proclaimed national beer of Texas (whatever that means) tastes exactly like you'd expect, which is neutral and crisp. Cheap 6-row anchors this insipid lager, with neither corn nor rice evident at all in the mix (which is pretty respectable in any beer of this style).

A tailgate beer for the hoi polloi that won't please the discerning drinker. Lone Star has its place, but at best it's king only of the peasants. I'd reach for one over the comparably watery Miller, Budweiser, and Coors, but at this price point I'd probably sooner take a Simpler Times - or even Pabst's own Ballantine XXX. If we're reviewing to style, it's hard to knock this one...it's a competent adjunct lager with a light body and I could see a frat boy crushing a suitcase of this with ease.

C (2.93) / AVERAGE

***
12.06.17 impression from a can:

Clear pale copper body colour. Frothy white head with a soft appearance. ~8 minute retention.

Aroma is redolent of corn adjunct, 6 row barley, and cheap floral hop character. Suggests a neutral beer with no off-notes but little flavour.

Taste is neutral, never letting its adjunct show too much. Not grainy or boozy like many inferior expressions of the style. It's surprisingly balanced for an adjunct lager, but then it's quite simple as well. 6-row barley and corn adjunct provide the bulk of the flavour, but it's shallow and brief in terms of depth of flavour and flavour duration, respectively.

It's a drinkable brew I could skull a can of if I had to (though its blatant overcarbonation might slow me down) and it would make for a good barbecue beer, but it won't dazzle discerning drinkers and I'd sooner stick to Schlitz Gusto or Miller High Life if a budget adjunct brew is what I'm after.

As it warms, I do get a hint of a metallic off-flavour, but it's hardly noticeable and consumers should drink this one cold anyway.

It's a cheap standard beer but where i'm from I can get a 6 pack of the 16 oz cans for 4 bucks, so I guess the quality speaks for itself.

L: brilliant gold filled with streams of rapidly rising bubbles under a 2" white cap with fair retention

S: a clean mild aroma of cracker and hop spice with a faint hint of sulfur.

T: The flavors are medium low with some light corn sweetness, a hint of apple to pear, light cracker, low hop flavors and a mild hop bitterness

F: The body is medium light and the carbonation is medium high to high

O: There is not a lot of flavor here but nothing is really off

Typical US lager, nothing special. Less sweet than some varieties, which is a good thing. Only disappointed with this beer because it's been talked up by a few Texans I know. If drinking macros, better than Bud Light, but would prefer Miller Lite, Busch or Budweiser (in that order).
