1516 Lager
,25l for €2,60 at the brewpub
Notes: Hazy golden body beneath a bright white head of froth that rises out of the glass. Very good head retention and lacing. Sweetish and fruity in the aroma with a bit of a floral character, and then again in the flavor. Mild bitterness. Doughy, grainy malt with some welcome hop spiciness. Slightly sugary overall (perhaps sugary is too strong of a word...) but quite nice, and readily quaffable. It's not quite what I think of as a helles, at least from a grainy point of view, but it's far from a pils.
If I had time to come here more often I'd certainly enjoy a few more of these, although their other beers are more to my liking. It's at least a breath of refreshing air amidst the sea of dull and mediocre canned pilsners that seem so popular in Wien.

This is the first of their beers that I had on tap and it was decent.
Nice Yellowy Gold color with decent retention and head.
It had enough Hops to notice but not enough that lingers too long. Smooth, easy drinking and solid. For what seems to be one of their staple beers, it was solid. Something everyone can like

A: Arrives a cloudy gold with a two-finger bone white head. Gobs of lace coat the inside of the glass.
S: Mild sweet malt and light, earthy hops.
M: Medium bodied with very good carbonation.
T: Biscuity malt nicely balanced with mildly spicy hops. Ends a bit weak, but with a nicely hopped aftertaste.
D: This really reminds me of a Augustiner Bräu Hell. It has all the right elements of that beer, but they somehow drop off a little at the end. However, this is a really quaffable brew and certainly a solid effort for a House beer.

(From notes)
A - Slightly hazy, light yellow color. Aggressively rising carbonation, and poured with a finger thick pure white head
S - Very light hop aromas followed by a twinge of malt, way too vague and light here
T - Sweetish maltiness that I associate with mass-produced lagers (either US or Euro); light hop bitterness on the end. Bit lemony.
M - Thin MF, spritzy carbonation that made the brew a bit more refreshing IMO.
D - Even though there is not much interesting flavor in the brew, it is easily taken down. Not offensive to the palate, and can quench your thirst a bit.
Overall, pretty basic stuff, and I've had more interesting takes on the style. This would probably be a great brew to introduce a novice to craft beers in general, and maybe even to the style.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call this beer the brewery's flagship, but it is their staple: the one beer that is always on tap. It comes out a cloudy yellow gold under a two finger white head with great retention and stickiness, generating wonderful lace patterns. A mild sweet malt nose emerges, particularly as it warms. The mouth is not quite light and not quite prickly, giving it a bit of an ale-ish impression. Nice Munich Helles taste with sweet malt upfront. There's more hops here than would be standard, adding a nice floral bite that redoubles in the aftertaste. Smooth, easy drinking and solid. Offends no one, excites no one, but worthy of respect.
