Pours a nice golden colour. The head dissipates fairly quickly leaving little islands at the top of the beer. The carbonation is fairly light. The nose presents grassy, wet straw, with citrus and hops in the background. The flavour profile reminds me a bit of mandarin orange, with a light sweetness and hoppy bitterness that sticks around for a bit. Not a bad beer but nothing to make it stand out from other beers of this style.

330mL btl. from an advent calendar. poured into a tall flute sleeve. 3C serving temp.

clear golden pour with a thick, stable and permanent, white, tight textured head with above average lacing.

untoasted biscuit nose, notes of a light wet hopping. Wet paper bag and musty note.

dry biscuit, mild wet hops with a grassy-citrus hint. Thick coating of sweet wheat and cardboard cut by the citrus note of the hops. Long, dry finish that clings a little with a final recurring yeast fizz at the back of my throat.

Nice continuous carbonation maintains an even and complete head. It adds a light cut to the creaminess to give it some depth.

Nice enough depth, good body with great carbonation and rounded/balanced flavour and texture profile, if lacking in drinkability, or a real interesting twist on a premium export lager; or a linear complexity that would make it anything above just average.

330ml bottle, day 7 of the 2012 Craft Beer Calendar. 'Ratsherrn' just doesn't sound all that appealing, now, does it?

This beer pours a clear, medium golden yellow hue, with sparse rising effervescence, and one flabby finger of foamy, bubbly white head, which leaves some low sea-cap lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of grainy, cracker, white biscuit malt, a bit of tart drupe fruitiness, and floral, weedy hops. The taste is bready, crackery pale malt, a further low-key, dry, earthy fruitiness, and leafy, somewhat grassy hops.

The carbonation is pretty well even and supportive, the body a sturdy enough medium weight, and generally quite smooth. It finishes a tad off-dry, the lingering bready malt still lazily tangling with those pleasantly noble hops.

Another of those German (ok, Austrian, so Germanic, then) offerings where everything just works well together, nothing stands out, and your glass is empty before you even know it. Good stuff, this.

This Beer 7 from the Rieder Advent Calendar. Pours a clear gold, with a thin head of foam, nice lacing. This is a very solid German lager, quite tasty, but pretty basic. Super clean and refreshing, its going to pair perfectly with the pub fare I'm about to consume. It's light-bodied, flavourful (for a lager), and very sessionable. When I pulled this out of the box, my expectation was Beck's, but what I got was more flavourful, higher quality, with none of that corn sweetness you get from all the mass-produced lagers. So, it's solid and better than most, but not amazing.
