.5L emptied into a Pokal.
A: Pours pale gold with a creamy 2-finger white head which slowly receeds to a thick ring. Decent lacing throughout.
S: Sweet barley malt, Saaz/Hallertau hops, hint of fruit.
M: Medium bodied with good carbonation.
T: The initial flavor of sweet malt is quickly overtaken. Hop transition is not so smooth, the hops peak a little too much and serve to unbalance the taste. Finish is predictably crisp, with a dry hoppy aftertaste which smacks a little of booze.
D: Not the best Pils I've ever had, but certainly above the average fare. The hops do tend to load up and overwhelm, so these are best enjoyed in single form.

Ive been told on two separate tours that this is a German style Pilsner.
Color is admittedly a bit pale for the type but head retention is ample and the inside of my glass is covered with something to remind one of Slimer and Ghost Buster movies. Scent is very soft on Hallertau & Styrian hops with an unwelcome lingering of grain. Goesser uses highly compressed hop pellets, so maybe thats what led to the less than pungent aroma. Taste is light and carries a slight bitterness. Nothing to go nuts about in the flavor department. Quality is all around average but when compared to many of the other easy to find offerings, it finds its way commonly into my fridge.

Hmm, for austria's proximity to south east germany, i've not been impressed by most of their brews. and Gösser [nothing] Spezial is certainly one of the examples. The pour, the smell, the body, the taste, well, just about everything is nothing above a lager, except a bit sweet- thus not very inviting (or refreshing, for that matter). In fact, the 50Cl presentation, (the only thing that ressembles a german beer) is way too much beer for such a mediocre example of anything.
