They are 1 of 5 places in the world to sell Bokkereyder.. what else do you need to know? It’s small, with an insane selection of beers. Really cozy with candle-lit tables. It’s heaven.

Connected to the Mikkeller & Friends bar. Really nice, cozy interior with hanging hop vines. Very small. Huge list of lambics, gueuze, and other Belgian beers, many of which are hard to find. Bartender was very nice and helpful. Prices are pretty high, but, then again, you may never see some of these bottles again.

Koelschip is a new pub, created by Copenhagen microbrewer Mikkeller. It specializes in Belgian beers, especially lambics and sours. It opened in March 2016.

Physical setting / appearance
Located one block west of Assitens Cemetery/park, about 4km west of Copenhagen city center. Bus 8A runs by the edge of the park, leaving you within a 5 minute walk to Koelschip. Asitens Cemetery, by the way, is where notable Danes have been buried, including Soren Kierkegaard. Which could provide a topic of conversation over a beer or three.

Enter the pub down 4 steps from street level in older, multi-story building. Interior is very compact with old wood builtins, stools, bar. Ceiling is very low, and the place feels like it's 400 years old. That's nice.

I sat at the bar since I was alone. Two guys were working the bar and answered every question I could come up with, with more detail than I could absorb. They knew their beer, and had personally tried virtually every beer on the menu. Service was immediate and friendly.

Koelschip specializes in lambics and Sours. I did not count the bottled beers on the menu, but estimated 250+. There were approximately 100 Mikkeller brews, and approximately 8 pages of assorted Belgians. I'm not actually a lambic or a sour fan, and lean towards classic Belgian ales especially Trappist ales, and saisons. There were about 12 Orvals available, from year 2010 onwards, and about 16 Westvleterns in 8% and 12% ABV.

There were four beers on tap, of which I tried two: a Rodenbach Grand Cru 2010, and Boon Foeder #97 2 year. I also had the 2010 Orval.

I did not try the food - there are only snacks offered.

I work for a Copenhagen company so plan to be in Copenhagen often. This pub will be a regular stop for me, even if it's a 30-minute bus ride. A fantastic selection, friendly staff, warm, cozy ambiance with quiet tables in back rooms or a spot to hang at the smallish bar. Thius is a drinking/conversation kind of place with no loud music and a friendly, neighborhood vibe.
