As part of their Scavenger Series of IPA, Mile Wide gathers enough Mosaic hops to make this exotic ale work. With the backbone of a west coast styled, dry and bitter beer, the curious nature of Mosaic hops brings a wealth of fruit, herb and berry character.

Bright gold and nearly brilliant in clarity, the striking glow of the ale highlights steady carbonated streams to fuel a light and arid froth. Lacing with each sip, the aromas lead with dried citrus, tropical fruit and dark berries. Herbal, leafy and stemmy, the scent is soon buffered by a crisp and clean honey, wafer and faint caramel sweetness.

The malt sweetness quickly dries and allows the Mosaic hops to dominate the taste thereafter. Tropical fruit flavors are prominent. Apricot, papaya and nectarine frame a nearly stone fruit character ahead of blackcurrant, blackberry and a juniper berries. Dried orange peel and a hint of pink grapefruit soon trail into an herbal and spicy bitterness of cannabis, peppercorn and an overall fresh grassiness.

Radiant and effervescent, the medium bodied beer trends drier and lighter with the pop of carbonation, drying hops and alcohol evaporation all ensuring a crisp, clean and highly refreshing finish. Mosaic can save nearly the most flawed beer recipe or techniques. But when these are already solid, the hops make the beer a star.

Date: Canned on 10/10/18, consumed on 12/08/18.

Appearance: Hazy unfiltered yellow gold color with a substantial white head.

Aroma: A wonderful mix of grapefruit hoppiness, honey, cereal grains, pine, herbal notes, and orange.

Taste: Bitter grapefruit and pine up front, followed by the sweet grains, then transitioning back to bitter on the finish. The lingering flavors are alternating back and forth between honey and somewhat bitter hops. It isn't a very bitter beer overall though, if the IBUs were cranked up more, this would go from a nice and totally pleasant beer to a great beer. My only other complaint would be that it feels just a little thin. One big plus I can end with is that at about two months old, Motherboy has held up very well.

Pours golden in color. Almost bright in the light. Nose is similar to their other flagship beer, Catalina Breeze. The breeze is a better beer in my opinion but this one is good too.
