500 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2018 vintage bottling. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense white head with solid retention, that reduces to a minimal spotty lace cap that lingers. Minimal spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy strawberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, pepper, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light leathery/musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, strawberries, wine barrels, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy strawberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, pepper, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light leathery/musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruit/Brett tartness, fruit/wine tang, and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy/tart/tangy strawberries, fruit skin/seeds, lemon, lime, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, pepper, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light leathery/musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, strawberries, wine barrels, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance, with no puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tartness, and fruit/wine tang. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately grainy/acidic/tangy, and fairly crisp/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.9%. Overall this is an awesome fruited sour/wild ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, strawberries, wine barrels, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish. Awesome balance of juicy strawberries and well rounded fruity/funky Brett complexity; nice wine barrel presence/integration and pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Iron & Glass - Romeoville, IL
Bon! Bonbon! is a handsome looking beverage. It's deep golden in color with a soft haze throughout and a bright glow. The foam is the purest of whites and crackles as it forms. The head rises to a finger in height before quickly crackling down to a thin ring atop that glowing body.
The nose brings some nice complexity. It's a little cheesy funky off the bat, stinky bleu and some background barnyard. That bleu cheese note grows as it warms. Each swirl brings forward a soft minerality, a vivid wildflower floral note, and a musty wheat twang. There's a vague fruitiness in the background but I probably wouldn't guess strawberries if I didn't know better. This beer really morphs and changes with glass time and some swirls.
The flavor follows the nose pretty closely. A somewhat sharp bleu cheese funkiness sets the foundation, it's appetizing and appropriate. Musty wheat and wet stone pop here and there. Where as the front end is more savory, the backend brightens up and becomes a bit more acidic. The strawberry shows itself on the finish, subtly. There's that nice sweet and sour play on the back with a lingering vinegar quality on the swallow. Good stuff.
The feel fits the body fairly well. The body is a few ticks below moderate in weight with a decent carbonation push though I feel it could be a touch more effervescent. The finish dries up rather quickly and leaves a soft vinegar tartness in its wake. It's a very easy drinking summer-like beverage.
This is a fine beer from the Whiner folks. It has a unique funk and dips between both funky and tart, savory and bright. I would pick up more of these in the future. I'm a fan of Whiner's general approach.
