Wonderful service. Cozy place. Not big selection. There Peace of Mind IPA is a very decent.

Heard some positive things about this place in some of the forums as a nice place to stop on the way to or from Tree House. After my most recent visit to Tree House, I decided to stop by.

Located in the basement of an old building, it's a cool place. Exposed beams & ceiling, nice old style foundation/wall. Large area with some cool looking homemade benches. Looks like a band or performer was setting up for some live entertainment as the evening went on. Cool place for a drink.

That's about where my kind words end.

They have the token chalkboard with their beers available. It showed the name, price and the ABV of the beer. Five offerings. I was looking for an IPA after having some wild ales at Tree House so I went to the beer menu on the bar to see what was what. Well, the printed beer menu provided the same information as the chalkboard but with a tiny bit more information. For instance, Carpe Diem was an offering that showed, name, price, ABV and something along the lines of "seize the day with this one." So I wasn't getting much help from the menu as to what was what. So I asked the bartender if they had an IPA. She looked like she had never heard of an IPA before and with a confused face said something along the lines of "maybe try (insert name here), it's kind of hoppy." So, I tried that one. Well, it was wet, cold and slightly golden, but not much to it other than that.

I decided to attempt to get some more information before trying my second beer. I asked what the 8% ABV beer was. "Is (insert name) a stout, or maybe a sour?" She once again appears really confused and proceeds to look at one of the patrons sitting at the bar reading a book. Apparently, she must also work here. She says to me, "that one is dry, our driest beer." Still having no clue what this beer might be, I passed and tried a different beer that was cold, wet, golden in color and not much taste.

I hate to rip on a new local brewery, especially when the place has potential as far as vibe and location goes. But the beer tastes like it was made out of a $40 beer kit you get at Bed Bath & Beyond. And, the staff, while friendly, didn't provide much help when it came pitching their beers.

Here's hoping they are still learning and going through growing pains and can turn it around. Would be cool to have another brewery close to Tree House that would be worth a stop. But this one might even be worse than Rapscallion down the street which was also a one and done brewery for me. Can't imagine I go back to Homefield unless I hear some good things.
