Style: American Brown Ale
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.60%
Availability: Year-round
Notes / Commercial Description:
This is the award-winning original American brown ale, first brewed as a holiday specialty, and now one of our most popular beers year-round. Northern English brown ales tend to be strong and dry, while southern English brown ales are milder and sweeter. Brooklyn Brown Ale combines the best of those classic styles and then adds an American accent in the form of a firm hop character and roasty palate. A blend of six malts, some of them roasted, give this beer its deep russet-brown color and complex malt flavor, fruity, smooth and rich, with a caramel, chocolate and coffee background. Generous late hopping brings forward a nice hop aroma to complete the picture. Brooklyn Brown Ale is full-flavored but retains a smoothness and easy drinkability that has made it one of the most popular dark beers in the Northeast.

Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. Freshness is clearly marked. Notes on the breweries origin and purity practices adorn an orange, brown and gold label.
Appearance: Leathery brown with a cream coloured head.
Smell: Sweet malt aroma with a little bit of caramel.
Taste: Rich mouthfeel with a smooth up-front caramel sweetness, changing into a defined crisp dryness (Burton-on-Trent style) that shadows the hop bitterness. This beer goes nutty in the middle and gradually finishes stronger.
Notes: A nice modern day American Brown Ale. On the dry side, but packed with a fullness of flavours.

Mediocre example of the style; thin; odd flavor on finish.

This beer pours a very dark brown, nearly black color, with a small, fizzy head. The aroma offers up coffee, dusty chocolate, and black currant. The flavor starts with stale coffee and chocolate, followed by an oaty cookie flavor, like a chocolate hob nob, as well as graham cracker, with just a touch of smoke on the end. The mouthfeel is very light. Overall I found this an unokeasantly stale, oddly smokey and roasty brown ale. Maybe I just prefer creamy browns, but this was not working for me.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass.
A: Dark mahogany brown, clear, with sparse head. Nice lacing.
S: Practically no aromas to note. With strong agitation, you can derive some sweet malt smells and perhaps something more, fig maybe.
T: Extremely well balanced with a hint of nuttiness in the complex mix of light & medium malts. I know there are hops here due to the balance but they really do not come forth for their proper due. The finish is brisk, clean, with nothing more than a fleeting memory of the malty mixture.
M&D: Mouthfeel is full, but not particularly heavy. Carbonation is moderately light which matches the flavors nicely. Although not a great fan of brown ales, this one is rather good. I found this highly enjoyable and would seek it out when available. Very nice.

A nice session beer. Served in a pint glass, it was a reddish/brown color with a moderate sized tan head. A sweet, cherry aroma, some malt, and a tiny bit of chocolate. The taste was sweet, with a little chocolate, and some hop bitterness. I really enjoyed the 6pack, and will drink it again.

The Brooklyn Brown poured ruby-brown with a big, fluffy, light brown head that showed excellent retention.
The aroma was nutty chocolate with a slight fruity hop note.
It was medium bodied (a little on the thin side) with nice carbonation. The taste was a surprisingly big fig flavor initially with lots of chocolate and nuttiness. It had a crisp, very subtle bitter, and slight metallic finish.
Overall, a nice, drinakable brown ale. It reminded me of a cross between a New Belgium Abbey and a porter.

Nice amber/rootbery medium dark and clear. Not much head, tiny bit of white rint around the edge with a dusting in the center. Mainly malty scents, lightly dark.. Tastes of roasted malts, darkened toast, bit of merlot. Med/highly carbinated, almost soda-like... just a step below maybe? Or as if you let your soda sit for a bit... carb is just a tad high feeling on this for me... Easy drinker though, not too heavy at all, and the flavors are very nice and not too intense, just very good and highly drinkable.

Presentation: It was poured from brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. On the label there is a best before date.
Appearance: The body has a dark mahogany color with a light tan head on top. The head quickly fades down to just a ring on bubbles around the edge of the glass. The lacing is mostly slick and slides down the glass with just a little bit sticking to the glass.
Smell: The aroma sweet with hints of roasted and toasted malt.
Taste/Mouth Feel: Up front the flavor has a nice sweet bready malt with hints of roasted barley, caramel and toffee. The hop flavor is mellow but adds very good balance to the finish. It has a big round and smooth texture with soft carbonation and a solid medium to full body.
Notes: Over all this is one very tasty brown Ale.
