Another taste of the "excessive hops nation".

This brown ale had a very good taste, right out of the bottle. Satisfying. But as I drank each additional sip, I began to notice an aftertaste of unknown taste. It was sort of smokey or bready or some extra taste like that. Not bad, but it did not add anything good to the taste. There certainly was the ever present hops taste, but not as much bitterness as I have found in others (ie - Sierra Nevada and Sweetwater put 17 lbs of hops in each bottle - YUCK!!!) and that was a welcome improvement.

The beer sells itself with the note on the bottle that tells you to look for the "chocolate and coffee" tastes. Really? I have eaten chocolate and drank coffee. They aint there. I did taste a small - SMALL - taste of what I would call dark chocolate, or maybe more exact - bakers chocolate. It was bitter and reminded me of that chocolate taste. Not what I need in my beer. If I want a chocolate taste, I know where they sell chocolate bars. I'll get one.

Brewers - Please just make beer. Stop all the floral, cinnamon, coffee, chocolate, HOPS OVERLOAD, nutmeg. rosemary, tumeric, etc., etc., etc.,etc., etc., etc.,etc...............................

No, I will not buy this one again. It was better, but not something I care to drink again.

Time to get back to German beer and their care and love of making beer, real beer, that tastes like beer.

Wow. Imagine that "crazy" idea.

This beer pours a very dark brown, nearly black color, with a small, fizzy head. The aroma offers up coffee, dusty chocolate, and black currant. The flavor starts with stale coffee and chocolate, followed by an oaty cookie flavor, like a chocolate hob nob, as well as graham cracker, with just a touch of smoke on the end. The mouthfeel is very light. Overall I found this an unokeasantly stale, oddly smokey and roasty brown ale. Maybe I just prefer creamy browns, but this was not working for me.

Good malty flavor. Was not too heavy, easy to drink.

Appearance: Pours a bright, deep brown color.

Overall: This beer has a variety of aromas containing sweet malt, a touch of chocolate and some nutty notes. The taste has good dark malt flavors of chestnut, chocolate, and touches of caramel malt sweetness. It also has a nice touch , fruity flavors as well. Brooklyn Brown Ale is a fantastic beer with lots of good malt and hop flavors.
