Notes:
We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

Brooklyn Blast
Aroma: Pungent combination of lemon zest and pine tar up front. Light honey notes and orange blossom floral notes abound. Clean fermentation character. A caramel base asserts as the beer warms and is agitated.
Appearance: Very cloudy amber pour with hazy golden edging. Moderate off white head that retains well. Effervescence noted in the glass.
Flavor: Firm pine-like bitterness up front. A honey malt character is noted and well-knit with lemon and pine hop flavors. A crystal malt presence is noted but it dries quickly and is beat back by the pine and earthy bitterness. Balance is firmly bitter. Finish is dry. Aftertaste is long with a powdery resin-like hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium high carbonation. A slight warming alcohol presence noted. No hop astringency. No oiliness or creaminess noted.
Overall impression: A well-crafted double IPA. A bit heavy handed on the malt which blurs the line between American Barleywine or American Strong Ale but it’s firmly in range of a double IPA. A nice change but not sure I’d put this in my regular rotation.

Pours a hazy dark orange with a medium-thick, white foamy head. Lacing is low, with minor head retention. Wonderful pine, and citrus hops with a zip of lemon in the aroma. Taste is near identical to the aroma, but with a smooth malt bass tone. Mouth feel leaned moderately heavy, and yet is easy to drink. Overall, a great Imperial IPA. Just solid all the way across the board.
Served in a 12oz snifter.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #84 (Jan 2014):
Very excited to run into the brew again. Hand it to Brooklyn Brewery for this big IPA that is like no other. A perfect blend of American and English hops with a solid malt backbone that holds up all the way to the end. Within the balance is a dangerous drinkability … thankfully, the warmth from the alcohol is a reminder of its strength.
STYLE: American Double IPA
ABV: 8.4%
AVAILABILITY: Year-round
LOOK: Pale golden hue, perfect clarity, thin lacing
SMELL: Earthy hop, leafy, apple peel, faint evergreen, ripe pears, herbal, clean alcohol
TASTE: Mild crispness, medium bodied, juicy, spicy, woodsy, melon, estery, earthy, dried bready tone, orangey, peppery, mild hop resin, fallen apple, dried hay, warming; drying, hoppy finish

Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of intense citrus notes with light bitter flavors. Taste is dominated by intense citrus hops flavors with light piney notes and some residual sugar. Some bitterness is discernable. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed but doesn’t really stands out from the pack and a bit too much bitterness for my taste.

Very nice hop flavor profile. Higher ABV but not noticeable. Too bad it comes in 4 packs at $10 instead of 6 packs. Overall a nice beer.

Pours a hazy orange-ish color with a white head. In the aroma, a small hop, yet very mellow. In the taste, small pine hops and a citrus hop end, and quite malty all the way through. A small hop bite and a medium to bigger bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry pine like aftertaste. A nice hop, a bit malty, hides the alcohol, and average beer.

Draft poured into a snifter
A: Pours a clear golden yellow with a finger of dense white foam.
S: Aroma is intensely hoppy with bright citrus fruits and a little bit of earthiness.
T/M: Flavor follows suit with more grapefruit, lemon zest, some more piney hops, followed by bready malts and earthy grains. Some caramel sweetness and low to medium carbonation make it quite smooth. A tiny alcohol bite lingers on the finish.
A very palatable experience.
