Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

this was one of my favorite beers at the buffalo brewfest, definatly the most memorable.

about a 4 oz. pour from the tap. pours a deep golden amber with some nice white sticky head.

smells of some really big hops. the aroma is mostly pellet hops and perfume.

wonderful flavors of pellet hops, perfume, citrus, pine, and herbal hops. a little caramel like malt, but mostly hop forward. definatly very resinous on the palate.

definatly some unique hop flavors going on, goes down easy, i would love to get my hands on some more of this, but i cant see that happening any time soon. a great ipa, get it if you can

Pours a hazy and unfiltered looking orange color with a thin lacing which unfortunately left a thin lace that soon disappeared entirely. The orange color was kind of neat though.
A nice juicy and tropical smelling brew. Mango predominated for me. Also, apricots, orange, sweet honey malt and semi pungent earthy hops.
As with the aroma, juicy and fruity sweetness was evident. However, the hops flavor also hits you like sharp pine, the bitterness moderate but biting and evident in the aftertaste. There is also some peppery spiciness and mild tartness.
Medium bodied and low carbonated. Although easy to drink, there is a fullness in the mouth that makes it slightly chewy.
A pretty good DIPA from B.B.

"Best before 9/20/14"; drank 6/28/14 so I'm guessing it's about 3 months old.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.

Semi-opaque pineapple color.

Noisy bright white head; nice lace.

Pine & mango nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Cold, this had a metallic character that melded with citrus notes to create an odd menthol taste; once warm, the metal disappeared, revealing mango & pine flavors. Sadly, so did an intensely bitter finish. Bold, certainly, but messy & not much fun.

A big citrusy double IPA with a decent malt backbone.

This dipa pours a slightly hazy golden amber color with a short lived white head that leaves very nice lacing. The nose is dominated by sweet pale malts and floral hops. Being from an American brewery this was unexpected. The mouthfeel is very near full and nicely sticky and coating. Carbonation is a bit light but fitting. The flavor is a bit sweet for a dipa. Lots of palr European malts and floral hops with bitter tropical fruit and citrus hops present only as a side note. This is a good dipa and worth trying but there are far better examples of the style readily available.
