Brewed by:
Brooklyn Brewery
New York, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.40%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
We brew our beer in New York, about halfway between the hop fields of the Pacific Northwest and the hop fields of Kent, England. So we use earthy English hops to build the foundation and bright citrusy American hops to bring the noise in the rambunctious IPA we call BLAST! British Maris Otter and German Pilsner malts lends solidity, balance and bready flavors to brace up a beer that’s beautifully hoppy, strangely quaffable and oddly compelling. Minerally hop bitterness is followed by a shock wave of flavor and aroma. You won’t even know what hit you.

DATE TASTED: February 10, 2015... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... OCCASION: pre-meniscus surgery drinking... APPEARANCE: swiftly thinning off-white head suggests heavy alcohol; misty, peach amber body that shows little vibrancy; spotty ... AROMA: goodness--an alluring powder keg of hops that range from strong orange peel and melon, to resin and fragrant flowers, to some metallic pilsener elements and apple late; each breath evokes a separate scent, almost impossible for a beer to accomplish ... PALATE: a soft, smooth, West Coast feel, with a lingering, palpable mouthfeel--not rambunctious at all, come to think of it; dry at the end...TASTE: complex mix of vanilla, orange peel, and bubblegum; pixey stick-like sugars cloak the 8.4% ABV to dubiousness; ...OVERALL: from its attractive label to its pleasantly sippable intensity, a beer that snuck up on me once before; by the drink's end, an amicable warmth pervades; disappointing this only comes in four-packs that steep a price, but on tap at a happy-hour price, quite a steal ...

A-a clear dark golden color with two fingers worth of white head

S-piney and citrus hops dominate the smell with light pale malt and even a bit of fruity sweetness

T-taste is how I would have expected based on the smell. Bitter pine and citrus hops with a pale malt backbone and some caramel sweetness

M-medium body, medium carbonation

Overall a very enjoyable beer, hop heavy but with a nice balance of malt sweetness

Pours a hazy dark orange with a medium-thick, white foamy head. Lacing is low, with minor head retention. Wonderful pine, and citrus hops with a zip of lemon in the aroma. Taste is near identical to the aroma, but with a smooth malt bass tone. Mouth feel leaned moderately heavy, and yet is easy to drink. Overall, a great Imperial IPA. Just solid all the way across the board.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

-pours a cloudy golden-orange with a small,quickly dissipating off-white head
-low-medium carbonation visible
huge mango, pineapple, passionfruit, pine resin and slight grapefruit notes
follows the nose with pine resin taking the dominant role plus some honey notes creeping in and a very toasty finish
-medium carbonation,no alcohol detectable
As a DIPA its very good,i just cant really get into this style

From bottle, pours hazy golden colour with a medium white head and nice lacing. Aroma passionfruit, sweet citrus, tropical fruit. Taste similar to aroma, tropical fruits etc. lovely.

Brooklyn Blast is a fantastic and unique DIPA. It's got a huge tropical fruit and citrus blast with a slightly grainy caramel malt base that reminds me of an APA. It's actually rather unique for the style because of the different malt base, but the huge hop hit won't let anyone down. A fantastic beer.
