look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance (3.75)- Pours a slightly hazy pale golden color. Nice sized fizzy white head that dissipates quite quickly while leaving some spotty lacing behind.

Smell (3.75)- Very yeasty. Sweet. Slight alcohol presence... almost smells like some sort of an adult apple juice.

Taste (4)- Again, belgian yeast is prominent. Sweet with a fairly strong tart finish. "Classified as a strong Saison by Garrett Oliver" but I think it tastes more along the lines of a Tripel. Abv is more noticeable in the taste than in the nose too.

Mouthfeel (3.5)- High level of carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Slight alcohol sting.

Overall (3.5)- Not a bad beer but not one of my favorite interpretations of the style. I cant say I didnt enjoy it but if Im gonna be spending that kind of money on a beer I probably won't be revisiting this one.

750ml bottle served in a St. Bernardus snifter.
Plenty of pressure is apparent when removing the cork, but the bottle was well behaved (no faoming), as was the clearly effervescent pour which raised a well proportioned head. The head had good retention and left excellent lacing. The beer is a hazy, light honey hue. An exceptionally appealing looking brew.

Aroma: fine fruity and floral layers with spicy yeast notes in the background. Nicely complex smell that has less banana and clove than the stereotypical Belgian pale ale. Hints of pear and other fruits mix with bready notes from the malts.

Flavor: Excellent sweet/bitter balance with a light tartness in the finish. Some yeast spiciness and herbal hops in the background. Hints of citrus peels, tropical fruits, banana, white pepper and biscuits in an exceptionally well-crafted mix.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied with ample soft effervescent carbonation. ABV partly hidden, although there is a very light burn on my sensitive tongue, and some warming after swallowing. Perfect dryness in the finish.

O: All aspectws of this beer come together to create a really superb ale. Drinkability is exceptional, and I was happy to have this 750ml bottle to myself. ... and happy to have bought a few more at the same time to share with others at a later date.

Poured from bottle into snifter glass

Appearance- The beer pours a lightly hazed orange golden color with a one finger just off white head. The head fades slowly leaving a nice level of lacing

Smell-The aroma is heaviest of some citrus smells of lemon and orange mixed with clove and a light banana smell. With these aromas are also some moderate lighter fruit smells of pear and apple as well as some hints of a yeasty aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready and citrus flavor. The citrus is mainly orange in taste but there are hints of lemon mixed with it. Other fruit flavors of a more tropical nature (banana, mango, papaya) are upfront as well. The yeast and spice flavors come more toward the middle of the taste. The sweet dwindles a bit as this occurs with the some light, more funk like flavors coming to the tongue. These tastes take the taste to its end where they mix with an increase in the clove and more breadiness to leave a decently fruity and spiced flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel-The body of the beer was rather average to above average in its creaminess and thickness with the carbonation level being a little on the higher side. The thickness was rather nice for the more bready nature of the brew, while the higher carbonation suited the fruit and spice nicely. A good blend for the flavors.

Overall- A rather nice drinking Belgian style strong ale. It had a good flavor profile and transitions with it even at 9% abv being very easy to drink. A quite nice beer to sit back and enjoy.

I opened this bottle and poured it into a tulip style glass. There was plentiful foam from the initial pour. Unfortunately, the foam was not sticky enough to leave any lacing on the glass. I gave extra credit for the pretty, golden coloring of this beer.

Off the top this smells like a very good belgian. You get the bubblegum and a little bit of sour smell. I also like the grainy presence.

The flavor clicks very well. I like the way it resides in the mouth. You can definitely get very enjoyable, clean flavor.

I recommend this belgian for a warm summer evening. Props go out to Brooklyn Brewery on this one.
