Look: Pours an opaque muddy brown color with a two finger off white head.

Aroma: Lots of influence from the yeast. I'm getting fresh banana, tons of clove, apricot and even notes of bubblegum. There are also notions of lemon, red licorice, plums, cherries and a delicate whiff of brown sugar.

Taste: Very creamy and supple. Upfront estery, fruity flavors of cherries, plums, tamarind, red apples and fig. Mid palate very savory notes of rich caramel, toffee and creamy malted grains dance on your tongue. The yeast profile plays a supporting role in the background, adding an extra dimension of depth offering notes of lemon meringue, apricots, bubblegum, clove, licorice and floral notes of lavender. As it warms savory sweet flavors of fresh baked bread and even chocolate come into play and the beer becomes more complex, but to be honest it's so delicious it's hard for me not to drink the entire bottle once I've pop'd the cork.

Feel: As previously stated, the body is creamy and velvety. Mid-heavy feel with moderate carbonation. Dry, yeasty, and fruity. Alcohol profile is apparent, but it comes across in a very clean, soothing way as you drink. Honestly while the beer is rich and hearty, it's still quite refreshing and crisp. I would have no problem chugging an entire bottle of this in a few gulps.

Overall: Absolutely superb. I wish this came in six packs because I could drink this all the time. This is by far one of Brooklyn Breweries best offerings in my humble opinion. A beer that should not be overlooked if you are a fan of belgian strong ales.

A nice three finger heads starts this one off...And that head dissipates but stays at a half inch for a long time. Nice lacing. Smells plummy and malty, but the first few sips don't land with much fruitiness. Some chocolatey goodness, sugars and caramel maltiness intro this ale to your mouth--but nothing that bowls you over. A bit of bitterness lingers at the end, with a big crisp, carbonated finish. The zip of carbonation helps a little to cover up a beer that comes off a little thin for a Strong Dark Ale. I applaud Brooklyn Brewery, like some of the other US indie breweries who are finally trying to make a quality Belgian style ale (see Schlafly, Boulevard, North Coast, etc). Even Sam Adams is giving it a swing with some success. None of them can match Ommegang's expertise, but all of them are making something worth drinking in the various Belgian styles--and that's a breath of fresh air in a time when the "who can be the hoppiest" pissing contest seems to still be the rage. These new ales offer drinkers another choice of big flavors to try, and new ways to look at what beer can taste like.

Appearance: Dark brown color, rich tan head. Cloudy with sediment.
Aroma: yeast, brown sugar, bread.
Taste: honey, ginger, some Belgian Wang, but ok. A touch of bitterness at the end.
Feel: bottle fermentation makes is very bubbly.

Well crafted beer, though not my style.

Probably some of the best head retention Ive ever seen in a beer. It nice dark brown with 3 fingers of white head that seem to last forever!!!! the aroma is ok,Brown sugar, malty, spiciness from the Belgium yeast. The taste is about the same. Very dry mouth feel. Overall this is an OK beer. It is nothing grand. I was expecting a lot more, but this just the beer equivalent to table wine. Nothing against the brewery. I have enjoyed there local 1 and Sarachi ace.But I don't think I would go out of way for this one again!
