Poured from the bottle a dark and clear mahagony color with three creamy fingers of light tan head.

Aroma of Juicyfruit gum, banana, spicy yeast and medicinal notes.

The taste was bright and fruity with Juicyfruit gum, banana, green apple and yeast. The 9% alcohol is fairly well-hidden.

Medium bodied and dry with a sharper carbonation.

This is a tasty Belgian Strong Dark ale from Brooklyn Brewery. Highly recommended.

Poured from 25.4 oz. bottle into Ommegang Tulip

First off, beware the cork. nearly left a mark and my ceiling and could very easily knock an eye out. WARNING cork shoots..far.

Appearance: Pours a mud colored brown that is slightly cloudy with a tan 4 fingered head. lacing is good and retention time is above average.

Smell: A lot of dark earthy fruits, plums, prunes, raisins, blackberries maybe. no noticeable alcohol smell.

Taste: taste follows the nose, malty and sweet that has barely the slightest alcohol content. very enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: It is a fairly thick beer, with Uber carbonation as stated at the beginning and ever so slightly gushed. crisp on the back of the palate.

Overall: I truely enjoyed this beer, probably my second favorite Belgian right now behind St. B abt 12.

Poured from 25.4 oz. bottle into pint glass.

Appearance; Pours a cloudy dark brown hue with a white-tan three-finger head. Nice lacing left along the glass as I drink.

Smell: Sweet fruits, dark malts, prunes, semi-roasty character. Booze not detected.

Taste: Dark roasted malts up front, followed by a fruity sweetness and a spicy finish. Not hot-spicy, but, you know, spices spicy. On the after-palate I can taste tart apples and burnt sugars,

Mouthfeel: Heavy bodied but also moderate/heavy carbonation. It definitely fits the flavor profile, ends dry.

Overall: Great, perhaps greater than Local 1. I love my Belgians, and this is no exception. Highly recommended.

The bottle is very cool looking, and will be a keeper. It has an old-world feel with raised lettering.

A: This thing has a huge head. A perfect billowy light-tan colored head with so much fluff, it might as well be whipped cream. The beer is a darker shade of brown when poured, and nearly black in the glass.

S: This has a familiar Belgian smell to it..hard to describe but it's a bit fruity and slightly malty smelling. There is a slight floral scent as well.

T: I get roasted notes right off the bat...some very light coffee flavors. It doesn't have a big flavor to it...I get a slight hint of what tastes like a date. It's not as strong in flavor or as complex as many other Belgian beers, but it's still pretty good.

M: The mouthfeel is light, bordering on medium. It is a smooth beer with great carbonation.

O: Overall I thought it was a pretty good beer, but it seems very light on flavor. Most Belgian strong beers pack a punch of flavor and let me know they're there. This one lingers like a wallflower. It's not a bad beer...it's probably more of a gateway beer for people who want to move on to stronger Belgian beers. I wouldn't say that it's an average beer for its style, but overall the beer is above average for beers in general.
