Style: Pumpkin Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Early American colonialists, seeking natural ingredients for brewing ales, turned to pumpkins, which were plentiful, flavorful and nutritious. Blended with barley malt, pumpkins became a commonly used beer ingredient. Post Road Pumpkin Ale brings back this tasty tradition. Hundreds of pounds of pumpkins are blended into the mash of each batch, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center, and crisp finish.

12 Oz bottle poured into glass
Look - orange amber color. Thick foam head and some glass lacing. Looks rather carbonated.
Smell - Nothing you haven't smelled before, typical pumpkin pie spices. Certainly good aroma but very basic.
Taste - first thought i have is the body is fairly light for a Fall beer. It's not watery but it's very drinkable. The pumpkin pie spices are still there but not really that strong. Medium high carbonation. More of a malty ale with some pumpkin flavor. I think it's too weak but that's my opinion and my preference for pumpkin beer is heavier and stronger flavor.

Overall, just a basic pumpkin ale, which is good but nothing more. Grade is a B-

Looks a cinnamon straw color with a nice white foamy head. Smells like pumpkin, fresh baked dough, mild brown sugar. Tastes like pumpkin, hops, malts, vague spices. Feels well carbonated and finishes clean. Overall pretty good for pumpkin ale. Not cloyingly sweet or too strong on pie spices. At 5% ABV this seems very sessionable (don't think that is a word)

Almost see through and a lighter shade of orange with a decent sized head from tap. Slightly spicy nose, not as potent as I would have expected. Decent pumpkin flavor with some slight spice and sweetness. Maybe a bit watery. Less carbonation and a medium feel from this beer. Ok.

Pours a clear orange with a finger of khaki foam that retains well. Aroma is pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Spices are heavy, pumpkin is light. Flavor profile is pumpkin with notes of cloves, nutmeg, butter, and cinnamon in between. Mouth feel is lightly velvety with a fizzy, soda pop texture on the back end. Overall, a fair pumpkin beer. It's pumpkin centric, with spice notes that add a little extra pizzazz.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz bottle.

Pours a clear amber with a good sized sudsy head. Nice lacing. Smell is just a hint of pumpkin spices. Taste is pretty standard amber lager with just a touch of pumpkin. This is not a beer you want if you want a really spicy pumpkiny taste. However, I think the small touch of pumpkin works nicely. And it makes this much more drinkable than most pumpkin beers. Medium to light feel which fits with the sessionable quality that this seems to be going for. Overall, I like this for a take on a mild, sessionable, pumpkin beer that's not overpoweringly spicy.

In faded yellow dots on the neck: "BB JAN 2019 2018 19:20"

Appearance: It has brilliant clarity through a beautiful looking dark amber body with hints of burnt umber. The head is very short with only a fluffy white ring and a large raft that remains.

Aroma: It smells heavily of clove with a wildflower perfume. It isn't the typical pumpkin (spice) ale aroma but it is pretty interesting given its floral nature.

Taste: It is heavy on clove but the spice doesn't linger. There is some cinnamon that makes its way through in the middle. There is a strong allspice flavor with a bit of a peppery quality which starts in the middle. The more the beer is consumed the more the spice compounds and becomes even more present.

Mouthfeel: It has a light body with a very crisp and clean finish. Good carbonation and very drinkable. The only downside to the mouthfeel is that there seems to be a lot of spice and it starts to cause the tongue to ripple and groove in protest.

Overall: I can't speak to previous years, but 2018 is extremely spicy. The spice flavors and aroma are very well done and they do stand out against the standard pumpkin ales, but there is no restraint shown here. I would only recommend this if you have a very high tolerance for spice.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Clear, caramel brown, thin off white head.

Smell: Spicy, nutmeg, cinammon, pumpkin

Taste: Spices at first with cinammon. Then some pumkin at the end

Mouthfeel: Smooth and light

Overall: A nice pumkpin beer that I had leftover. Past the best by date, but still tasty

This is not okay this is a disgusting pumpkin beer. I don't know what kind of spices they used in this beer because they do not mesh well together at all. C'mon guys get your stuff together I know that pumpkin ales are a style that is easy to mess up, but you can do a little better than this. This is close to undrinkable for me. Cheers! C-

12oz brown bottle into tulip pint.

Look: orange-amber with a thin, short-lived head. Head fades to moderate lacing.

Smell: Pumpkin pie spices. Toasted pastry.

Taste: spicy up front, with a solid backbone of slightly sweet and biscuit-like malt in the middle. Pumpkin flavor is most present in the finish, which is slightly sweet and mildly spicy.

Feel: Substantial without being overbearing. Carbonation lightens things a bit.

Overall: It's really nice to have a pumpkin ale that actually tastes like pumpkin.
