Style: Pumpkin Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Early American colonialists, seeking natural ingredients for brewing ales, turned to pumpkins, which were plentiful, flavorful and nutritious. Blended with barley malt, pumpkins became a commonly used beer ingredient. Post Road Pumpkin Ale brings back this tasty tradition. Hundreds of pounds of pumpkins are blended into the mash of each batch, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center, and crisp finish.

A- This beer pours a deep amber with rusty orange hues in the background. Lacing is most excellent with mountain like terrain forming on the sides of my glass....carbonation is fine looking and slowly rises to the top of the liquid. Overall a very nice looking brew!

S- Loads of natural pumpkin aromas, with soft vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel malt sweetness, bready yeast, and the finish is of orchard fruits (apple/apricot) and smooth bitter finish.

T- The flavors follow suit very nicely with solid pumpkin gourd , brown sugar, pie crust......ok, just call this a beer version of pumpkin pie.....nutmeg, cinnamon and pie spice abound, with hints of ginger heat, vanilla smoothness and yeasty biscuit to round things out. The finish lingers slightly and is nice and dessert like on the palate!

M/O- Light to medium bodied, with subtle carbonation; this is an easy drinking pumpkin beer that would be very nice with dessert pie and works well on its own too! I find it a well balanced fruit ale and I would have no problem purchasing this one again! Recommended!

Bottled
Pours a golden orange body that looks like it's made from girders ;)
Earthy iron and nitrous aroma
Really similar flavour with a sweet finish
Just a teeny weeny tiny bit too fizzy

Pours a very clear medium amber producing 3+ fingers of clumpy, beige, shaving cream foamy, lasting head that recedes to a dense mound-like surface cap leaving blotches of chunky lace. Aroma is malty, pumpkin, spice. Caramel, ginger, cinnamon, clove, weak pumpkin & faint grain. Taste is overly caramel cola sweet with a thin malt backbone, the ginger, cinnamon & clove are working overtime with grain & orange hints, some hop bite in finish. Aftertaste is dry, bitter spice heavy to cinnamon. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with medium-high carbonation, wet up front, prickly throughout, dry in the finish, grainy & chalky in the aftertaste.

Overall a decent pumpkin. More of an ale than a pumpkin but drinkable. Needs a little more pumpkin spice to be a good pumpkin but would order at a bar if available.
