Style: Pumpkin Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Early American colonialists, seeking natural ingredients for brewing ales, turned to pumpkins, which were plentiful, flavorful and nutritious. Blended with barley malt, pumpkins became a commonly used beer ingredient. Post Road Pumpkin Ale brings back this tasty tradition. Hundreds of pounds of pumpkins are blended into the mash of each batch, creating a beer with an orange amber color, warm pumpkin aroma, biscuity malt center, and crisp finish.

The beer is a gorgeous orangish-amber color with a lightly yellowish head. It really sticks around, and allows some clumpy lacing and extra sweet flavor.

It is highly carbonated and keeps bubbling up the whole time. It smells very strongly of pumpkin and a light, bitter hoppiness. It is a lightly spiced nutmegy, cinnamon beer with a strong hop taste. It tastes almost as if the hops were made to be more prevalent than the pumpkin.

A nice pumpkin lager for probably a warmer day. Not overly spicy, yet slightly hoppy, a good one if you don't feel like a heavy, dense, pumpkiny beer.

From notes... Props to my BA in crime joemcgrath27 for the seasonal delivery!

A - Pours a slightly hazy golden copper colour with an orange hue, finger of soapy head, solid retention and sporadic lacing.

S - Musty caramel, nutmeg, cinnamon, earthy pumpkin, and a hint of leafy green hops.

T - The caramel and toffee undertones make for a deliciously balanced ale with the earthy pumpkin coming through alongside the leafy hops. The spices are subtle but present with nutmeg, cinnamon, all-spice and vanilla coming through. Unique peppery spice lingers on the palette.

M - Medium, smooth and wet... The perfect combination.

O - Nicely balanced pumpkin and malt undertones, nice leafy hops and uniquely spiced. Not overly spiced and some solid pumpkin presence. A solid gourd ale.

Nearly clear, orange colored ale with a pale tan head of 3 fingers. Good lacing.

It smells like pumpkin pie and light toasted malts. Kind of nice.

The taste has a light sweeteness upfront, some citrusy tartness in the middle, and a rising bitterness in the end. Disappointingly nondescript after the aroma.

Moderate in body with a slight tingle and the warmth of alcohol.

I really liked the aroma, but overall I was a bit dissapointed.

Brooklyn Brewery has been one of my favourite brewers at "The Great Canadian Beerfest" Victoria BC Canada since their first appearance in 2008 although they did not pour Post Road PA at this years fest , I found this at the Quadra St. Cascadia Liquor Store
during the limited October pumpkin ale season , pleasant enough in appearance and smell , I was disapointed in both taste and mouthfeel , just a little to watery for my taste buds

Cheers LampertLand
