Brooklyn Brewery
New York, United States

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Pilsner is a refreshing golden lager beer, brewed in the style favored by New York’s pre-prohibition brewers. In the 1840’s, the pilsner style emerged from central Europe to become the world’s most popular style of beer. Like its ancestors, Brooklyn Pilsner is traditionally brewed from the finest German two-row barley malts. German-grown Perle and Hallertauer hops provide a crisp, snappy bitterness and fresh, floral aroma. The flavor of the malt comes through in the finish. We ferment Brooklyn Pilsner at cool temperatures, and then give it a long, gentle maturation (lagering), which results in a beer of superior complexity and smoothness. We believe that you will find there to be none finer. Unlike mass-marketed so-called pilsners, Brooklyn Pilsner does not contain cheap fillers such as corn or rice, nor does it contain any preservatives or stabilizers. Brooklyn Pilsner is the real thing.

poured into a pint glass, light brown, amber highlights
smells light, some hop notes,
tastes crisp, citrus hops, goes down really well, one of the best pilsners i have had to date. i could drink several of these on a hot summer day in front of my grill.

On tap at Winking Lizards Tavern. Shorter review since I was eating dinner. This beer really surprised me.

Appearance - A translucent elixir-like gold color. Very vibrant and almost shiny in a way. A nice retentive foamy head that takes quite awhile to fade.

Smell - A really impressive scent. Smells of delicious citrusy malts with a complex sweetness. Light spice.

Taste - An excellent malt backing to a zingy, lightly sweet and malty beer. Light pepper spice with faint clove spread across a piece of wheat bread.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability - Extremely wall-balanced and sessionable. Went down smooth and fast. Avoided the skunky hop taste that I've experienced in the last few pilsners I have tried. Light-bodied, crisp, and perfect for summer.

Poured into a pilsner glass.

A - Clear golden yellow coloration with a nice 2 finger head. Decent retention.

S - Grassy hops are present, but an aroma of ripe apricots takes center stage here. Unexpected and pleasant.

T - Sweet crystal malt body with some mild tartness and fruit notes. Good balance and quite refreshing.

M - Smooth light body, mild carbonation level, and a rather tangy finish.

D - Very good beer, and a great example of the style from an American brewery. Impressive, most impressive.

Clear, with a light straw color. Nice lace considering the head dies to a thin layer of micro-bubbles.

Nice floral hop aroma that balances the subtle rounded malt. I think the flavor is excellent: the malt is slightly sweet but not in an overpowering way. The hop is subtle in the initial tasting but soon forms a complex flavor profile which lasts through the swallow and lingers in the aftertaste. This is a full bodied crisp pilsner with a moderate level of carbonation.

So far, this is my favorite American Pilsner. I think it remains very true to its Czech roots.

From a growler that was #3 out of the new keg. This beer poured a nice golden color with a small amount of cloudy white head. Has a nice scent to it with a hint of citrus. Could taste the citrus and the slight piney/tartness of it. Was very smooth and light in the mouth. I did not expect it to have a high citrus taste and it does, but not overwhelming at all. This was a very drinkable beer.

Been on a pilsener kick lately so I thought I would give this one a try even though Im not a huge Brooklyn beer fan. Man, do I love pils.

A: Good looking bottle of Brooklyn as the others. Pale gold with an enormous head after being poured into a pilsner glass. Constant carbonation.

N: The aroma matches the look, good stuff. The spices of the hops are front and center and the rest of the nose is their to match- biscuity malts make you think chewiness and grassiness together.

T: The hops also take center stage in the flavor, in a good way. The bitterness and the spices slice in first, than some sweet malt flavors, finishing with the spicy and earthiness. One of the more complex pilseners, at least thats what I catch.

M: A bit creamy with the coating spice and hoppy without being oily.

D: As with any good pils, drinkable as you can get. Awesome with the spicy food I was eating as Im sure it would be with a variety of other flavors. This deserves a spot in any fridge.

This fits right into my pilsener love affair- will be grabbing more. This gets lower ratings apparently but this doesnt fall short of many others that top the style, perhaps Pikeland and Prima. Deserves respect.

Serving: Keg

A: Light-medium straw color, medium-high carbonation. Light-medium head.

S: Citrusy hop aroma.

T: With very light maltiness, the hop flavor combination is focused of grapefruit and rose pedals (citrus/flower) on my palette are worth the price of admission. Very clean, crisp and refreshing the way a Pilsner should be.

O: Very good. The mild flavors and aromas of this style of beer are difficult and time consuming for Home Brewers to produce, so I will leave it to the pro$.
