Happy Birthday, Brooklyn! Loved your label.

In a snifter this beer was a cherry amber color with a medium-sized tan head.

Aroma of sweet malt and grassy hops.

Taste of honey and caramel. Grassy hops arriving late.

A sweet, smooth beer. Very nice!

Pours a nice cooper/burnt umber with a cream colored head.

Resinous pine hops, dark wine fruit - plumb, fig - fresh mown grass, malted whole grain bread.

Taste follows nose with a lot of delicate interplay, and the addition of butterscotch.

Shared 750 ml bottle at local tasting. ABV is 8.6%. Orange to amber colour, off-white head. Pleasant aroma of dried fruits, grapes and malts. Warming mouthfeel. Medium sweet, decent malts, hints of spicy grapes and oranges, quite well hopped. The alcohol is noticeable, but not disturbing. A beer I’d buy again.

I'm a transplanted New Yorker and miss Brooklyn Brewery, and great brewery and a great crew. Really miss Local1 and Local2, which for some reason are not available anywhere out West anymore. Saw this 750ml in an out of the way store and jumped on it, not realizing that their 25th Anniversary was 8 years ago. I thought it was enjoyable, but aging lagers is probably not a great idea. Would have liked to have tasted it in 2013.
P.S. Anyone out there willing to trade some Local 1s or 2s???

A drain dump.
I don't know what went wrong. I gifted a bottle to a friend who had the same experience.
Absolute drain cleaner.

This has been in my fridge since I bought it in 2014.....

L – Clear as a bell darkish amber. Virtually headless and zero lacing after a moderately aggressive pour into a stemless wine glass.

S – All the following characteristics are subdued, but noticeable individually. Light toast, light caramel, Claxton fruitcake, dark fruit (prune?) and maybe slight banana presumably from the yeast. A heavier Devils Backbone Vienna Lager comes to mind.

T – Similar to the aroma. Slight alcohol warmth on the back of the throat that lingers. Bitterness is in good balance and does well to prep the palate for another sip.

F – Medium mouthfeel, the 9% ABV washes the palate

O – It’s an “okay” beer. Not really worth the 6-year wait. If you have one go ahead and drink it, making space for something else.

Poured from a cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Slightly hazed medium brown pour with thick foamy white head. Outstanding retention and lacing.

S: Sweet toasted grains, bread, and herbal hops.

T.F: Sweet up front... toasted grains and caramel. Malty and earthy... nut, tea leaf, and herbal hops. Some balance but stays slightly sweet. Medium bodied... sticky.

O: Aged (unintentionally) better than I expected it to... somewhat sweet but still very drinkable. Hides its ABV well. Glad I got to try it.

Tasted from a 750 ml bottle. I don't know if I would have bought it if I'd noticed the 2013 date on the bottle, as the age seems a bit extreme for a Doppelbock.

L - Dark copper or amber color. Good clarity but not crystal clear. There were some dark solid chunks at the bottom of the glass. I concluded they were bits of the cork that had adhered to the inside of the neck until I poured the beer. Impressive cream-colored head is sticky and made of tiny bubbles.

S - Age hasn't been kind to the aromas. I get faint bread crust and low caramel, but also a dull, cardboard note from oxidation. Some sherry-like alcohol.

T - Flavors have lasted better than the aromas, but still show some age. There is the expected focus on full, bready malt, but also some oxidized notes. A bit of alcohol sweetness.

F - Medium to thick body with lots of carbonation, giving a creaminess. Surprisingly high hops bitterness. Strong alcohol presence.

O - This is still a good beer, even after 6-7 years on the bottle. I wish I'd had a chance to try it in its prime.

I thought this beer was an Imperial Stout, not a doppelbock. I would not have aged this beer in the cellar if I knew that. Popped the cork and the beer erupted. I was trying to stop the beer volcano, so I put my thumb over the bottle. I sprayed my uncle with the beer and hilarity ensued. Poured into a beer mug at 37 degrees. The beer produced a massive three finger head with good retention. The color of the head is light tan. The head is creamy, airy, and foamy leaving lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is a deep amber color. The haziness of the beer gives zero clarity.

A bready malty aroma with a touch of Maillard. Additional aromas are caramel, medium roasted malt, and yeast.

A rich bready malty flavor with sharp yeast and roasted malts notes. Additional flavors in the beer are Maillard, roasted malt, and caramel.

The body of the beer is medium. The mouthfeel of the beer is chewy but light, the carbonation is high, and the finish is medium.

I think I killed this beer by aging it. This doppelbock flavor profile is gone. I am not sure if I did it or it was that way when it came out.

A: pours a dark caramel with massive head and sticky lacing

S: deep caramel sweet and malty base with roasted sugars

T: doughy yeast with a lager twang Slightly tongue stinging with carbonation and a flat finish. Plenty of Noble hop bitterness. Light butterscotch as it warmed up more

M: lots of carbonation, light layered lager feel

O: nice overall doppelbock a little lighter and less sweet than some of the various Sam Adams bottles that I used to drink. More authentic in style as well

Amber pour with a white frothy head. Field berry and bready malt. Quite hoppy with wood notes. A little off style for me but enjoyable

This is probably the most delicious lager I've ever had. The flavour was light but incredibly complex, with fruity afternotes. Reminds me a bit of a Belgian tripel, but lighter bodied.
