Crystal clear golden yellow in color. Poured with a short, bright white foam that slowly reduced to a wispy cap while leaving sheets of sticky lacings on the glass. Fresh floral hop aromas with an herbal spiciness beneath and a light biscuit malt notes. On the lighter side of medium bodied. Very easy drinking. Very smooth up front with delicate, rich carbonation rolling through the middle to the end. Floral hop flavors up front that slowly expand and transition to a spicy herbal hop bite through the middle. Biscuity malt flavors are more apparent from the middle to the end. Finished cleanly with bready, spicy herbal aftertaste. Tons of flavor and easy drinking. Hopefully this becomes part of Yards regular lineup. Doop.

Yards Brewing Co. "Sons Of Ben Rowdy Pale Ale"
gravity poured cask @ the Yards Real Ale Invitational on 30 April 2017

Notes: Just slightly hazy golden body beneath a short head of white. Average head retention and lacing. The aroma is floral and citrusy with notes of orange, soft grapefruit, and a touch of apricot. The flavor is similar with a basic, golden, and lightly grainy malt base. Nicely balanced with a stiff, median bitterness. Mildly earthy and tea-like in the finish. Medium-light in body with a moderate carbonation. I was expecting a little more from a "rowdy" ale, but OK. Really quite sessionable - listed at 5% ABV.

The light golden colored beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 1/2" white foamy head that leaves a ring of foam on the sides of the glass as it slowly recedes. Sipping creates small patches and legs of lacing while leaving areas foam and a few legs of lacing around the other side of the glass during the drinking of the beer.

The aromas are light and a bit delicate but include some grapefruit mingled with other citrus fruits and there is also a light floral character here.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose but with the addition of some malt sweetness and some almost earthy bitterness. The Belgian yeast shows in the flavor profile but does not dominate the flavors from the hops.

The mouth feel is on the light side of medium bodied and only slightly prickly with the moderate carbonation. The finish begins as the citric fruit and sweetness begin to move to the background while allowing that light earthy bitterness to first emerge and then tail off into a dry ending that invites another sip.

As wth most of what I've had from Yards this is a well-made, enjoyable beer that I'm glad to say I have more fresh bottles of to enjoy. I'll certainly plan on picking some up next May when if it is released again. This is also a beer that suits it's intended purpose quite well in my view. The beer is intended to be light, refreshing and to invite the drinker back for more. That said I suspect that some will not enjoy it, particularly if what they seek is the kick of intense flavors and aromas.

32 oz growler poured into a pint glass.

Appearance
Yellow-straw with 2 fingers of loose, white head that dissipates quickly. Excellent clarity with moderate carbonation.

Nose
Mango, pineapple, and passion fruit.

Taste
Musky mango, sweaty pineapple, and light notes of passion fruit. Honey sweet maltiness along with additional candy sugars. Finishes with touches of pine and some lingering onion.

Mouthfeel
Medium-light bodied, crisp, and refreshing.

Overall
I'm not sure where the Belgian part comes into play, but this is a really solid American Pale Ale.

Served on tap and served too cold at Pour House in Exton, Pennsylvania. As it warmed I could enjoy the yeasty, fruit smell. This is very crisp and refreshing

on draft. clear yellow in color, foamy white head - the Belgian yeast profile is there, but it's lacking much else. Not really any malt flavor, just a bit too pale for me.

DOOP

Found this on tap at the Moon & Raven Pub in Williamsport, PA - 190 miles from the source and even more surprising to see the SOB Rowdy on tap.

Poured from tap into a pub style ale glass, nice off white head that presents 1 inch thick and then dissipates to a top and some lacing on the glass.

Aroma is crisp, light belgian yeast phenols/esters, moderate hop prominence with a grassy note.

Taste is similar to the aroma but more pronounced, crisp, moderate pale malt comes through more than the aroma, belgian yeast flavors are pleasant and the grassy hops counter the light sweetness and yeast notes.

Mouthfeel is crisp from the hops, moderate lingering maltiness and drying from the hops. A beer that is easy to drink but enough strong flavors to counter and slow you down to enjoy it.

Overall, this iteration of SOB Rowdy is better than the first version I remember. Great belgian aroma and flavors with easy drinkability.

I am a member of the Sons of Ben and love the Union and Yards. This beer is awful. I guess the goal was to make a light brew for easy quaffing but they've made a "session beer that has a bad aftertaste. Truly disappointed--really expected so much more in this one off for the SOBs.
Really wanted to toss it away after two sips. I think the SOBs and the Union should get to taste the beer before putting their name behind it. Quality first don't sell because of the label/name on it. Yards you owe us a better one next time. It is light in color -- yes like a light beer-- and it fizzes but all it's got is a bad aftertaste.
