Style: English Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Detailed in a letter from the General to his officers during the war, Washington’s recipe employed molasses to aid fermentation and give rich caramel notes to this robust, roasty ale. The recipe reflected his admiration for Philadelphia-style porters, especially those brewed by Robert Hare (whose original brewery stood just blocks from where ours is now). Our Tavern Porter, inspired by Washington’s, is dark, smooth, and complex with just a hint of dried fruit in the finish.

Almost black color, strong smell of molasses, and roasted chocolate. Excellent smooth taste,a very straightforward porter that doesn't try to be anything but a great porter. Another great product from yards

12oz pour at Jean Bonnet Tavern in Bedford, PA. Black with foamy mocha head. Was rich and malty with sweet spicy flavors. Great body. Nice sipper by the fire place in the dining room.

Fairly straightforward medium style porter - slightly roasted flavors, a little chocolate and traditional malt bill. To the point and unassuming, it gets the job done.

This one pours a nice dark brown, with a small white head, and a good amount of lacing

This smells like chocoate, rye, slight honey sweetness, roasted malt, and a little bit of licorice.

This is a nice easy drinking porter, with a good balance of bitter and sweet. There's some honey and molasses, a little bit of fruitiness, rye spice, roasted malt, and some licorice.

This is light bodied, but not thin, at all- it coats the mouth nicely. It's got a good level of carbonation.

I really enjoyed this one- and I really like the idea of this series.

12 oz bottle poured into nonic pint bottled on 8/26

A: Small creamy looking slightly off white head. Body is a dark brown almost black but light escapes around the edges.

S: Roasted malts, caramel, nuts, slight coffee, very grainy sweet breads

T: Lots of nice roasted malts, a light bit of coffee, nutty, a little bit oaky, sweet and a light bit of chocolate and smokiness

M: Medium to slightly thin has a fairly creamy body.

O: This is a good porter solid taste easy drinking nothing off about it. Just a well done clean porter. This is something you would enjoy if you want malts but not the high ABV.

Cherry cola black with a finger of mocha head. Nutty roasted malts with a hint of vanilla. Similar taste, with a nice roasted malt quality on the backend. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. This is a great porter.
