Formerly "India Pale Ale".

Standing firmly on the east coast end of American IPAs, our India Pale Ale emphasizes balance. An insistent malt character from traditional floor-malted English barley harmonizes with a generous amount of Chinook and Amarillo hops. Fruity and aromatic, our IPA is perfectly balanced.

Really nice English IPA with lots of malt balancing a nice fruity hop profile, both on the nose and on the taste. This is a really nice fridge IPA, one I’d gladly try again.

The head doesn't retain well, but the clear amber body and musty, fruity nose are at least interesting. So I enjoy this interesting, complex flavor, but don't really see it as an American IPA. It is more of an English style strong ale, with beefy hops to meet a towering malt profile. Biscuit and medicinal hops are laced with grapeskin and dark fruit; there is as fair bit going on here. Pretty clean in the finish, I would try this again.

Color Is a clear amber with an ivory head. Lacing in the glass is pretty good. Aroma is kind of nondescript. Very malty with floral hops up front. Feel is medium bodied with low, light carbonation. Overall, it's very nice. Tastes more like an hoppier English Pale Ale than American IPA, but that’s not a bad thing.

Poured from 12oz bottle to a nonic pint. Pours a clear amber color with ivory head that falls to a thin cap. Leaves some nice lacing in the glass. Looks really still in the glass. Aroma is caramel malt with floral hops. A lot more malt than I'd expect (I didn't get a chance to check date). Taste is sweet malt and floral hops up front in good combination. Middle sees some hop bitterness kick in with some citrus and melon notes. Finish is a bit dank, piney and earthy. Feel is medium bodied with low, light carbonation. Overall, it's decent enough. Tastes more English than American, but again not sure of the age on this.

Clear amber appearance with an average size off white head and good lacing. Muted resinous hop aroma backed by toasted malt. Hop profile is a little more assertive in the taste although the balance is evident. Aftertaste is dry and bitter with a lingering finish.

The problem, for me, when rating a style that is as prolific as an IPA is that everyone has a local favorite. This one is rightfully revered in the Philly area. And it IS good. It's that sometimes it gets less respect than everyone else's local favorite IPA.
