Very Good
India Pale AleIndia Pale Ale
Notes: Standing firmly on the east coast end of American IPAs, our India Pale Ale emphasizes balance. An insistent malt character from traditional floor-malted English barley harmonizes with a generous amount of Chinook and Amarillo hops. Fruity and aromatic, our IPA is perfectly balanced.

$ 40.42/case of 12 ozers ($ 0.14/oz) at Save On Beer, Mars, PA
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma of citrus and caramel malt
Head large (5.5 cm, aggressive pour), off white, frothy, slooowly diminishing to a five mm frothy ring and a frothy heaped partial layer
Lacing fair – mostly drag marks from the receding ring, small to medium bubbles, lasts the entire glass
Body gold, clear
Flavor a good combination of citrusy hops and caramel malt, very much like an English IPA without quite the Kent hop flavor; no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate – medium, watery, soft carbonation

Pours a dark orange amber and clear with a few lazy bubbles coming up to the top. Sported a scant off white head that fell fast to a thin ring and a film o'er top. Not too much lace but good enough.

Nose is strong hops character. Earthy, herbal and scented with ripe fruit and fruit musk. Have you ever smelled a bushel of ripe fruit? That's where you can observe fruit musk. It's clean and has some pine on the nose. The malt smells caramel sweet and breaddy. Buttery rich and full even on the nose. The fruits are orange and a little tart grapefruit, and some peach and mango for tropical notes. There is some fresh grass & earthy spice that I find really pleasant as usually spice is lost to heavy pine scents in a lot of ipa's.

Taste is terrific hops character. This beer has an assertive hop bitter that starts at the mid palate and realizes itself fully at the back of the throat with all the earth and herbal from the nose plus that spice, making a wonderful combination. The malt is full and flows easily and effortlessly and is a tad chewy. The ripe fruit carries a subtle sweetness that isn't a blast of this or that fruit but a sweetly pleasing quality. Toasted grain and biscuit.

This is a very pleasant blend of english and american ipa styles that is easy to drink and has plenty of hop character without an excessive bitter. Friendly yet firm, this is a beer I could go for again and again. I am going to go out on the limb and call it sessionable because it doesn't wreck the palate and because it has a very casual flavor that I really like.

Notes are from 5/26

It's a dark one, almost a brown-orange-red with a fiery flare in the recesses and a brighter amber gleam outside. The head is an off-white cap just shorter than half a finger, but it keeps up well and leaves behind pretty good lace.
It has a sort of hybrid tone to it, seeming to incorporate the earthy, spicy, woody/leafy bitterness with brighter citrus and not-quite-dank notes along with lots of yeasty esters giving off dark fruits as well as almost tropical under the danker/earthier stuff. There's also just a twinge of alcohol noted with every sniff and sip, but nothing too heavily ethanolic to enjoy the overall very much.
There's a sort of earthy dankness that even translates to the feel, though it doesn't weigh down the medium body or take away from the brightness that also translates. Crispness comes out strong on the palate from front to back, as does smoothness in the semi-dry feel.

Poured strong down the middle of a smallish tulip. Huge head that drained away quickly. Some lacing, but not much. Nice caramel color. Based on what others have said about this beer, I chose to let this sit a bit to force of some of the carbonation and to warm it to traditional British serving temps. The nose has a slight maltyness and a strong bitter hop scent. I'd guess lemon pledge, with a bit of pear at the end. The flavor is of toasty malts. A bit of biscuit with a medium hop finish. There are hints of esters and alcohol. This is not your traditional American IPA. Much more like a traditional British style. I am glad I let the carbonation wane as it is still a bit frothy. Another good beer from the folks at Yards.

Light copper appearance - pretty clear.
Moderate head retention, great lacing down the glass
Strong citrus scent
Taste - doesn't really taste like an IPA but I guess if it is going for a traditional English IPA type it hits the mark. Good beer nonetheless.

Pours a light amber, but looks flat. Some head, but very little. Some lace, somehow. Smells a bit better than a typical English IPA! Tastes and feels like an English IPA, which isn't my usual choice, but this worked well! Overall, not bad. Not great, but not bad.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A very large off white head is produced, very foamy but seems to have a lot of staying power and retention. Body color is a very dark orange/brown amber. Clear body, with next to no visible rising carbonation. Head make a nice big thick cap and some small scattered clumpy lacing is left as well.

Nose is a very mushy citrus hop angle with lots of toasty bread and malts. Fruit sense is very over ripe smelling, almost marmalade and jam.

On the palate and nice small fruit chew, the citrus angle comes out first. It seems a little unexpected as it seems to hint of an American style ipa. However on the swallow is a great tannic lingering herbal tea like sensation. Sweet rosehip tea comes through with a good black oolong tea like finish. Nice sweet malt tastes come out with more sips.

Overall, really great tasting beer, rather liking this one and a nice take on the style. Very enjoyable would have again no problem.

Appearance: Poured ontap into a pint glass. The ale is a deep gold in color with a bone white head and tons of lacing.

Smell: Floral and hoppy for sure, a nice aroma.

Taste: Lightly bitter hops with a pale malt backing. Lemony citrus notes coupled with an earthy bitterness and some pine notes. Malt is just there for balance and overall the beer is creamy and smooth for an IPA.

Drinkability: An excellent beer and easy to drink much of it. Good pairing with spicy foods. Another fine pale ale from Yards
