Notes: Not to be boastful, but we honestly believe all others pale in comparison to this one. Crisp and hoppy, Philadelphia Pale Ale is brewed with Pilsner malt and American hops, which impart a surprising citrus aroma.

Had at Yards in Philly.

After having a Jefferson Tavern Ale (one of my favorite beers in the world), I decided to give this lighter ABV option a try.

Nearly completely clear, golden yellow. Mild aroma of hops. Clean biscuity taste with a good hoppy bite. Great biscuity aftertaste. Super smooth and moderately light. Yep, these qualities are all to my liking. A superb APA, one that would really shine in the summertime too.

Solidifying Yards as probably my favorite East Coast brewery and absolutely one of the best in the whole country.

Yellow light gold color, nice feel with just the right amount of carbonation. Pine citrus aroma with similar taste with a grain Malt addition. Yards is an excellent brewery and this is just one of many great beers they produce

Pale straw color with a thick white head.

Pine and grass up front in the aroma and taste, with pineapple sweetness peeking through on the backend. Pilsner-like, biscuity malts behind. Light bitterness.

Medium bodied and crisp. Very refreshing.

I think that Yards is great and everyone should try it. I first discovered them at a sampling station set up in Wholefoods. This particular variety has a meager 4.6% ABV, but has its own attributes.

Look-It pours a clear and light golden yellow color that I expected. The head was thick and stacked at first, but then settled down into a yeasty foam. The lacing was prevalent, but tenuous.

Smell-It smells of honey-based malts and citrus hops. I also get a sort of floral component and the malts also smell of grains. I do also smell a lot of grapefruit hops, too.

Taste-The taste is interesting with most of the flavors that the nose indicated, but also equally weak. It is a noticeable flavor, but it isn’t very strong. Malts are mild and honey toasted grain and the hops are mostly citrus based which is a pleasant pairing with the honey overtones.

Mouthfeel-It is a bit medium-bodied, but it is smooth and the carbonation is mild.

Overall-I think that this was a nice beer. It isn’t overpowering in anyway and it is well-balanced and mixed. The components are all integrated nicely. It is crisp and refreshing and at times drinks like a summer shandy, but not as sweet of course. Great job, Yards!

Look: a pale golden yellowish orange Smell: citrus, pine and grapefruit
Taste: slightly bitter yet extremely smooth and easy to drink. good session ale
Feel: light crisp and refreshing
Overall: a great go to beer for Philly locals, hands down probably the best APA in Philadelphia. Yard's Pale Ale and Philadelphia Brewing Company's Kenzinger are my go-to local brews.

Another bottle-conditioned nightmare. I don't know whether to hold the brewery or the liquor store at fault, but common sense points to improper warm-storage at the package store. This one was a gusher with a hazy golden pour once the head settles off. The aroma is yeasty with notes of ginger-ale and lightly sweet. The flavors of licorice and ginger poke through a heavy bitterness. The body is fairly smooth for such a gushing head. The yeast comes through in a bisuity finish. I'll have to travel down to the brewery to get some fresh brew and give it another try.

Note: realized I put this review under the wrong category (Yards IPA) a few months ago. Just moving the review to the proper place...

Got to say it: I loved this beer.

Had this on tap at Irish Pub on Walnut during a trip to Philadelphia yesterday.

A fingers worth of head sits on top of a light, slightly hazy, honey colored body. The lacing on this brew is wonderful - I love it when the circular residue follows your sips all the way down like the notches on a tree. It smells great - grassy, candied citrus. Taste follows the nose with a little hop but not that much. It's fruity and even kind of creamy. Leaves a great taste behind.

I've never heard of this beer and it was delicious. I'm sure it was a fresh batch on tap, but maybe this beer is also underrated.

Give it a shot!

Decent head, muted nose of malts with some hops sitting in the background. Taste is OK biscuity . Decently carbonated. I can drink this but not at the top of my list. Still the taste blows away a macro lager for sure.

A very nice clean cut traditional English style Pale Ale...Pours a very nice copper color, with stuff floating around in there...A perfect blend of English malt and hops creates a refreshing, drinkable brew, with slight sweetness and a dry finish.Very smooth and easy to drink. Another good one from Yards brewing company.

Pours yellow gold w/ good foamy head. Smell is flowery and sweet sweet citrus, a little bitter pungency. Taste is bright and sweet citrus with spice and bitterness, moderate carb, wet feel. Different, original, little bit of a champagne booziness in the finish, would drink again

Hazy yellow gold body, alive with carbonation streams and floating yeastie beasties. Huge billowing loose white head. Very strechted lacing.

Inviting citrus nose.

On the tongue, malt and hops battle toe to toe with caramel and fruit/sweet and bitter, like Ali-Frasier I. The flavors alternate thru the mouth before merging in a big final gulp. Pleasantly bitter aftertaste does a very slow fade.

Mouthfeel is just a tad too much to the thin side. Fine drinkability, easily sessionable.

While not revoluntionary, a perfectly pleasant pale.

12oz bottle. Brewed in late march.

App: Slightly chunky 1.5 finger head. True gold with a slight haze. Loads of bubbles.

Smell: Fruity/floral hops with a noticeable bitterness. I'm not a fan of smelling the bitterness beforehand.

Taste: Light malt taste upfront followed by a strong citrus flavor. Low bitterness and a slight mineral taste. The best APA I've had in terms of flavor. This is what I think an APA should be, not the hop-bomb stuff the west coast puts out. Could perhaps use a bit more in the malt zone, but at 4.6% a low malt profile is to be expected.

Wonderfully light in body with a slight film that is rather pleasant. I could have another, and that's saying alot since APA's are not my usual brew.

Pours softly from the bottle, very, very little carbonation. Minimal head, less then 1/2 inch that vanishes fast. Pretty gold color, slight chill haze. Nose is low key. A bit of sweet grain and a touch of lemon.

Taste is on the light side, soft, a bit sour with some yeast and a touch of earthy hops. Malt profile of this beer seems a tad watered down. The low carbonation reinforces this. The sour taste comes through in the end with some yeast notes.

Overall a clean, light easy drinking beer. Real complexity is lacking in this beer. It's well made, a nice beer, but pretty forgetable.
