With a rigorous pour this beer yielded a thick foamy head to add to the lush hazy orange color. The smell was of tart hops and a floral note. Taste was a bit lacking. The hops aren't overpowering and the malts didn't add as much flavor as I was expecting. There is a floral taste to go along with a citrus flavor to leave a tangy dry taste. By no means a bad taste but for this style I was anticipating more of a punch to the tastebuds. I'll have to try this again when summer rolls along.

This beer poured a dark yellow color. The head was minimal, and was gone almost immediately. There was Zero lacing. Minimal aroma. What was there was a faint maltiness and citrus hops. The taste was OK, if a bit bland. Some bitterness, with even less malts. Boring!

aka Yards Queen's Head Ale...

Poured a light tawny orange, with a tiny bubbly head, little lace or stain, and showing little carbonation. Smelled of florals and bitter fruit scents, a small nuttiness, and a malt that was soft in texture and strength. Taste was of a greeny, grassy, oily hop flavor, with a very light malt in the background. Very thin and drinkable, I'd pay no attention to the numbers, as this a good session beer or a watching-football-beer to choose in Philly.

This is not my favorite Yards brew. I like the ESA on tap a whole lot more. This is an average pale ale. It pours a nice amber with a small off-white head. It has a little lacing, nothing great.

Its aroma is a little sour and not nearly as floral as other pale ales that I've tried. It has a hoppy flavor with a hint of fruitiness. Nothing special. It has a really nice feel in the mouth, but all-in-all, the drinkability is average. The beer was served very cold, which may have caused some of the smell and flavor to suffer, but I think it is probably still rather average.

Another bottle-conditioned nightmare. I don't know whether to hold the brewery or the liquor store at fault, but common sense points to improper warm-storage at the package store. This one was a gusher with a hazy golden pour once the head settles off. The aroma is yeasty with notes of ginger-ale and lightly sweet. The flavors of licorice and ginger poke through a heavy bitterness. The body is fairly smooth for such a gushing head. The yeast comes through in a bisuity finish. I'll have to travel down to the brewery to get some fresh brew and give it another try.

Appears slightly hazed copper with a mountainous frothy head, all I can say is welcom to Starbucks sir. Broad rings of thick lacing line the pint glass throughout the pour. Aroma has delicate floral hops with some mild fruit tones gracing my senses all under a mellow malt sweetness. Taste is a bit mild all of the flavors are tame except for the hops they came through creating unbalanced harshness there is some residual caramel tones in the malt profile. Mouthfeel has some syrup like textures but still a bit thin especially for a cask. Low carbonation very smooth making drinkability effortless not bad just not as good as I was hoping.

Slightly hazy amber liquid is topped by a moderate but rather long-lasting head of off white foam. The aroma is nothing special, with just a typical "beer" smell. No hops at all in the nose. The taste is rather bitter up front with basically nothing behind it at all. Very clean finish, but there is no malt body to speak of, no sweetness, just strong piney bitterness. I actually find it hard to drink because it's just not that enjoyable. This beer is like drining a macro with a bunch of hops dumped in early in the boil and a slightly restrained carbonation. I'd take a Rolling Rock over this any day. Yard's is sort of hit or miss in my experience. This one's like bombing your own troops.

Served in a 12 oz. bottle. The color was golden, with only a bit of head retention. The smell was mostly of malt, with a hint of hops. The taste was mostly yeasty, with a flat aftertaste. The mouthfeel was smooth. Drinkability-wise, not great, but if it was all there was........

Another disappointment from Yards, I'm sorry to say. Maybe their beers are better on cask, but this offering in the bottle is average at best.

Hazy, tawny-gold hue, thick white head, excellent retention. No lace. Very mediocre nose, rather yeasty, bready with notes of malt… no hops. The invitation is apathetic. More flavorful than expected, sweet and yeasty… bready, lemony… minimal hops influence. Pretty decent palate. Well-balanced. Exceedingly drinkable. Very little carbonation. Medium-light body… pleasant mouthfeel but a tad thin. Overall this is a unique beer with enough subtle attributes to make it enjoyable. Session beer material.

Alcohol by volume: 4.3% according to the sheet that came in the case. Lable states it is "Cask Conditioned".
Bright golden color with slow , steady carbonation. Frothy white heads dies quickly to a ring of tiny bubbles around the glass.
Aroma is clean , bready malt with a sharp twang of hops and a stray touch of sourness; maybe this bottle is a tad old- no dates.
Flavor is all hops with a light bodied splash of malt sweetness for balance. Finish is dry and grassy, clean and not harsh or bitter.
A solid session Pale Ale.

Poured a nice deeper straw color with medium head left some nice lacing,a little fruity in the aroma with a ever slight malt smell.Iwas gonna give it a lower taste rating when a nice malt smack came in at the end of my first sip. This brew is a little rough around the edges it maybe a work in progress,I like more than alot who have reviewed it looks like.

this yards brew is, in a word, average. nothing more. nothing less. pours a light amber/orange colour with a bit of a haze and a mild head. fruity and floral smells are apparent. surprisingly, not much taste here. seems more watered down than i would hope for from a yards beer. what you've got here is essentially a basic, a non-daring pale ale. would i drink it again? yes. would i go out of my way to find this brew? no.

This beer was not impressive to me. I enjoy other beers from Yards but am left in the dark as to why this beer continues to be propagated. This straw colored pale ale has an aroma that reminds me of the most horrible lagers served in plastic cups during my freshmen year of college. The head is thin and the overall appearance is cloudy. The taste is quite sour with a lot of yeast presence. There is also a faint cidery taste as you make your way through the beer. The carbonation is light and the taste is that of a bitter lager. I bought this in an otherwise great variety case with three other great beers. Now I have a six pack of this crap to deal with. Not again.

Pours softly from the bottle, very, very little carbonation. Minimal head, less then 1/2 inch that vanishes fast. Pretty gold color, slight chill haze. Nose is low key. A bit of sweet grain and a touch of lemon.

Taste is on the light side, soft, a bit sour with some yeast and a touch of earthy hops. Malt profile of this beer seems a tad watered down. The low carbonation reinforces this. The sour taste comes through in the end with some yeast notes.

Overall a clean, light easy drinking beer. Real complexity is lacking in this beer. It's well made, a nice beer, but pretty forgetable.

I have had this beer before and enjoyed it, but there must have been something wrong with the cask this time. It must not have conditioned properly. There was hardly any carbonation or head and it tasted stale and bitter. It could have been old. I know casks don't last long once they're tapped.
Yards is one of my favorite brewers, but something went wrong here. I will have to give this one a second chance.

Got this in the Yards sampler case. Pours a golden amber color with a minimal white head. The aroma was quite mild, consisting of soft malts, and a bit of floral hoppiness.

The mouthfeel was surprisingly smooth with just a touch of carbonation. The taste is clean and unoffensive...it could use a lot of hops. Its definitely lacking in that area. Mostly malt flavor with a touch of bitterness at the finish. To me, this tastes more like a lager than a pale ale...if they infused this brew with some hops it would be a lot better. Nonetheless, it certainly isn't bad and is quite easy to drink.

It is golden in color with a fluffy white head that holds pretty well. There are a lot of little floaties in this one, and it looks like a snowglobe, just golden. The aroma was very unique, but I picked up some pale malts and some dough.

The flavor is lacking a bit. It has a sweet start of malts. It then dries out to a taste of white bread. The flavor certainly wasn't bad, it was just simple and there was something missing. I needed more flavor, and maybe a slightly different flavor. It does well for a drinker, however.

Transparent-light brown/orangish color. Pours a tiny fluffy white head that disapates quickly, leaving what looks like a cloud in a sky of orange-brown. A fairly attractive looking beer...Its smell is disappointing though. Somewhat of a grainy and sour aroma. Maybe the style though, this is my first english mild pale ale. Taste is a little sour but its overall hop flavor is an enjoyable bitterness. No prevalant malt taste. Carbonation is non-exsistant and body is medium. Couldnt drink many of these, its too sour. Maybe this one was starting to get a little skunked. I got a six pack of it, if the others taste different I will edit the review.

Amber-tinged golden colour with a decent, average head. Some lacing. It's fairly clear despite being bottle-conditioned. Lightly hopped nose, with a little caramel malt - I thought. Flavour is relatively hoppy, but balanced. I think I'm really getting into the hops lately - this isn't overly hoppy, though. It's pleasant, and I could drink it for quite some time.

Copper in color with no head. The aroma is malty and caramel-like, but a bit weak. Hops show up a bit with warming. Flavor is also big on sweet caramel malt, with evident grainy notes and a strong bitter finish. Choice of hops and malt give this beer a decidedly "English" character. Medium-light body. Proclaimed a "session ale" in the blurb on the bottle, this beer is adequate in all respects, and would pair well with certain foods, but isn't something I would savor simply on its own.

This beer poured into the glass a orange-amber color that had some cloud to it. The head was a white in color that was not present for very long. No lace seemed to be present. The aroma was fruity and hops with a tad of malt were present. The taste was sweet with fruit/citrus and hops. A malt seemed to be present but not overpowering plus it added to the sweetness. A well balanced beer with flavors and smells. Would like to get a few to take home next time.

Beer poured a yeast clouded orange with a good head of white foam that settles to a ring. The aroma was rather light, with just a bit of malt sweetness and a bit of floral hops. The taste was decent with a nice bittersweet balance of malt and hops, just a bit on the citrusy side, kind of orange rindish. Smooth and easy drinking with a slightly dry finish, as Davo noted this would be a great session brew.

Nice, amber-orange in color, a little hazy. The head was nothing special, quickly went away. Fruity noble hop-influenced smell but without much malt. Very smooth in the mouth, modest carbonation and really appropriate balance of hop flavors. Also, flavors of toasted grains and a little malt sweetness were present. Overall, a pretty good beer. Very easy to drink.

Hazy orange with only a little white head after a fairly vigorous pour. Sweet citrusy aromas welcomed me to the first sup. Citrus followed into the mouth with some sweetness underneath. Fished dry and slightly bitter. Pretty well balanced and very easily drinkable. A nice brew.

Not a bad pale ale, although it could be a be more hoppy. I also have higher scale pale ale from them to try, so I may find my hops there. A nice looking beer from the pour. Very intriguing. Not an over powering aroma, but very do-able. Prost!
