This beautifully complex, boldly hopped, amber-colored IPA uses rye malt to give the beer a subtle spiciness. It’s bittered with Bravo and Nugget hops before heading to the hop back packed with whole flower Chinook. Finally, we bomb it with Centennial, Citra, Simcoe, and Columbus, creating a pungent ale with intense notes of citrus and pine.

After just trying FW Wookie Jack, this was destined to disappoint, but while not Wookie Jack, it is still mighty tasty. Rye is prevalent in nose and taste. Hops mix in nicely. Slight pine and floral notes. Taste the Brotherly Love, Philly.

12 oz. bottle poured into a libbey glass. Bottled on March 16 2015.

L - Dark amber with a red hue. 1.5 finger head. Thick lacing gripping the glass

S - Dry, pine hops with thick caramel malts in the middle.

T - Bitter pine hops with a touch of rye in between. Spicy citrus on the finish

F - Medium-light body. Little to no alcohol taste. Fairly easy to drink

O - This is a good limited release. Whole-cone hopped with some rye is just to die for. If you like beer towards the bitter side, definitely give this a try.

Look: A nice deep copper, approximately 12 SRM, that has the hazy attributes of a well hopped beer. This is no exception. The head is one finger thick, and leaves off white splotches down the walls of the glass. A high protein content is obvious in this brew.

Smell: A blast of rye upfront, like a loaf of bread full of caraway seeds. A honey doused hop aroma follows, but is not overwhelmed by the intensity of the rye.

Taste: An earthy wallop of hops comes roaring in like an English style IPA, but this is American through and through with a superb follow-up smack of classic pine. The hop character to me seems to play most predominantly upfront, with the supporting role of malts coming in at the end. However, the rye rears its head at the end of each sip, not to be defeated by the whole-cone action of American bred hops.

Feel: Medium bodied, somewhat creamy, but with a crisp finish that ensures a follow up gulp. The bitterness is again earthy and mild, but the lack of astringency makes this an instant classic.

Overall: This beer is quite satisfying, and "good on its own" like any great IPA should be. However, I would love to pair this with a diverse range of cuisines including but not limited to Indian, Barbecue, and spicy Mexican fare. Enjoy.

I first tried Yards at a sampling station at Wholefoods. It wasn't until later this summer that I grabbed some to bring home. Its an IPA brewed with Rye and has 6.2% ABV.

Look-It pours a pleasantly clear amber color with mahogany and copper hues. The head is one finger or less and is doughy and leaves a thin layer of off-white lacing on the glass.

Smell-I smell a lot of rye that is tampered with grapefruit and citrus. The malts are well mixed with this hoppy action.

Taste-The taste follows the nose, but with an immediate buttered rye flavor from the slightly sweet malts. I also get orange and tangerine cobbler that is followed by nutmeg spices and then a bite from the hops and carbonation. The Rye is noticeable throughout the whole experience which is nice.

Mouthfeel-It's smooth and oily with a clean finish. The carbonation fizz shows up towards the end and is released at about the same time as the alcohol.

Overall-It is obvious that the Rye is perfectly integrated and takes center stage, but is pleasantly flanked by citrus and spice. It isn't too bitter for non-IPA drinkers and it isn't too sweet or syrupy at all. I really enjoyed this unique beer and would recommend it to everyone! Cheers!
